Job Description
The PLC Controls Engineer III implements multiple electrical projects as the Lead Engineer for an integrated system or sub-system. Engineer provides planning, reporting and management of the electrical project, in addition to technical implementation. The Electrical Controls Engineer takes full ownership of the controls program elements and executes and/or delegate individual tasks throughout the project life cycle by coordinating and forecasting electrical resources in-house and on site may include other Electrical Project Engineers.
The Engineer takes a systems approach in understanding core design features, project elements, overall electrical architecture and manages the scope, budget, schedule, maintaining internal and external customer expectations throughout the project life cycle.
You will report directly to our Software Eng Manager, and you'll work out of our Mason, Ohio location on a Hybrid work schedule.
ResponsibilitiesKey Responsibilities
- Provides planning, reporting, and technical management of the project for the PLC Controls Engineering portion.
- Acts as the Lead Engineer or as an Engineering Team Member, handling multiple projects with little or no supervision.
- Demonstrates and recognizes project success from multiple levels of financial, technical, and timeline management responsibilities.
- Works closely with other engineering functional teams and manages the scope, budget, and schedule.
- Executes all test plans on-site, both internal and customer acceptance/BUAT/UAT/FAT.
- Apply prescriptive methodology to project tasks.
- Collaborate with engineering teams and execute project tasks.
- Prepare or update reports and documentation.
- Attends weekly team meetings; reviews scheduled tasks/timelines.
- Maintains internal and external customer expectations throughout the project life cycle.
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering
- Minimum of 7 years of Controls Engineering Experience in a similar role
- Leadership experience (Project Lead, Project Manager, Supervisor, Team Lead, or similar)
- Experience leading a program or multiple projects at one time
- Ability and willingness to travel up 60-70% of the time
- E-Commerce Material Handling Systems
- Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) Programming and Electrical Design of:
- Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Beckhoff Programmable Logic Controllers
- Codesys and ladder logic programming
- Servos and motion control experience
- Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) programming and setup
- Network Protocols
- Serial, Ethernet IP, Profinet - Warehouse control system software interface and protocols
- Human-machine Interface system design
- Aveva Edge, Rockwell FTV studio, Ignition - Scanner and Machine vision system interface (SICK, COGNEX, Datalogic)
- Project planning and budgeting. Effective writing and verbal skills
- Tools and software
- Logix 5000, Studio 5000, Zone Flex Configurator, RSLinx, Factory Talk View, B&R Automation Studio, AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, SST Profibus Configuration tool, Ignition, SOPAS, Datalogic Data Man. Siemens TIA portal, Beckhoff and Schneider, Auto CAD Electrical, Auto CAD, BOM Generation, schematic design, panel design
- Capability to apply broad knowledge of one professional discipline or advanced knowledge of specific technical/operational practices
- Self-motivated and able to work with little supervision, by consistently taking the initiative to get things done
- Capability to update or modify working methods in your role by following defined procedures
- Interest and skill to collaborate with engineering functional teams
- Ability to consistently make timely decisions even in the face of complexity
- Dexterity to evaluate and recommend technical solutions based on standard or accepted technical practices
- Capable of handling high-risk projects.
- 5-7 years of experience in Controls Engineering
