Role Purpose The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving manufacturing processes assembly operations. Reporting to the Director of Manufacturing, this role ensures production processes are safe, efficient, repeatable, and aligned with engineering intent, supporting facility launch, production ramp-up, and long-term scalability.

Reporting & Scope

Reports to:

Director of Manufacturing Works closely with:

Production Supervisors and Operators Product Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Thermal)
Product Integration Quality and EHSPrimary focus:

Manufacturing process design, line support, and continuous improvement

Core Responsibilities Manufacturing Process Development Develop and document end-to-end manufacturing processes for:

Battery module assembly

Battery pack assembly

Define process flow, work content, and sequencing to meet:

Quality requirements

Throughput and takt-time targets

Safety and ergonomic standards

Work Instructions & Standard Work Create and maintain:

Detailed work instructions

Visual aids and standard work documentation

Ensure instructions reflect:

Engineering drawings and BOMsCurrent revisions and approved changes

Train production staff on new or updated processes.

Equipment, Tooling & Fixture Support Specify, install, and support:

Assembly tools and fixtures

Test and inspection equipment

Material handling aids Support commissioning and validation of production equipment.

Production Ramp-Up & Line Support Support production during:

Initial line launch

Volume ramp-up Introduction of new products or variants

Act as first responder for:

Process-related issues

Bottlenecks or downtime

Implement corrective actions to stabilize production.

Quality & Process Control Define and support:

In-process quality checks

Error-proofing (poka-yoke)
Process capability and control plans

Partner with Quality on:

Root cause analysis

Corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)
Engineering Change & NPI Support Support engineering change management, including:

Assessing manufacturability impacts

Updating processes and work instructions

Support new product introduction (NPI) by:

Preparing production processes

Participating in pilot builds

Ensuring smooth transition from engineering to production

Continuous Improvement & Cost Reduction Identify and execute continuous improvement initiatives focused on:

Yield improvement

Cycle time reduction

Labor efficiency

Scrap and rework reduction

Apply lean manufacturing principles to improve flow and productivity.

Safety & Ergonomics Ensure manufacturing processes comply with:

EHS requirements

Safe work practices

Identify and mitigate ergonomic and safety risks in assembly and material handling.

Documentation, Metrics & Reporting Maintain accurate documentation for:

Process definitions

Equipment settings

Change history

Track and report key process metrics to support operational decision-making.

Typical Day-to-Day Activities Support production floor operations

Troubleshoot process and equipment issues

Update work instructions and process documentation

Participate in improvement events

Support line balancing and staffing adjustments

Coordinate with engineering and quality teams

Key Deliverables Manufacturing process flows and layouts

Standard work and work instructions

Equipment and tooling specifications

Process improvement plans and results

Inputs to production readiness and launch reviews

Authority & Boundaries Authority to define and improve manufacturing processes

No authority over product design decisions

Expected to escalate safety, quality, or capacity risks promptly

Process stability and repeatability

First-pass yield and defect reduction

Throughput vs takt-time targets

Reduction in downtime and rework

Effectiveness of NPI transitions
