Substitute Receptionist
The Town of South Hadley is seeking friendly, positive individuals to join the Senior Center's team as substitute Receptionists. Substitutes will work as coverage is needed and in the absence of the regularly scheduled Receptionists. Work opportunities may be offered for either shift (8am-12pm or 12:30pm-4:30pm) and may include both planned multi-day assignments or short-notice shifts.
The Receptionist at the Senior Center serves as a welcoming ambassador who assists participants with information, registration for various programs and services, and helps with various projects. This position requires exemplary customer service, verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to interact with a diverse population of senior participants, families, volunteers, and staff with empathy, tact, and discretion. It also creates and maintains a professional and accessible image as the initial point of contact representing the South Hadley Senior Center in a manner that promotes a culture of community, inclusion, and belonging.
Responsibilities- Open and/or close the Front Desk and Senior Center.
- Offer a pleasant, welcoming, and professional greeting to all incoming individuals; handle walk-in visitors, phone calls, and emails; answer questions or direct to appropriate staff.
- Check‑in and register members for various activities and programs and accept payment for applicable fees; monitor sign‑ups for the lunch program and document attendance.
- Update appointment sign‑up spreadsheets with current and future calendar dates.
- Follow all health, safety, and emergency procedures.
- Perform other related job duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school degree or GED; at least one year of related work experience.
- Ability to satisfactorily pass a CORI check.
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification, or ability to obtain soon after hire.
- Knowledge of computer and software skills and ability to learn and work with new software.
- Ability to help with room set‑up and lift up to 20 lbs.
- Strong commitment to public service and older adults, and to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of work.
Schedule/Substitute Status:
This is a substitute (as needed), variable‑hour position, with no minimum guaranteed hours. Position is non‑benefited, at $17.01 to $20.74 per hour depending on qualifications. Schedule will be based on need and typically replicate 4‑hour shifts of current Receptionist staff:
Monday through Friday, 8:00am–12:00pm or 12:30pm–4:30pm.
