Position: Processing Technician (Office Automation).
Location: Lincoln

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative assistance with shipping/transportation functions of moving recruits from the MEPS.
  • Assemble applicants, administer briefings, and instruct applicants on procedures.
  • Interview recruits to obtain information to complete recruit packages.
  • Enter data into Command automated system(s) to record applicant processing information.
  • Operate a variety of office automation equipment to prepare documents.
  • Fingerprint applicants/recruits in accordance with guidance.
Conditions of Employment
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has been designated as non‑sensitive and requires a personnel security investigation.
  • This position will routinely require unscheduled overtime to accommodate fluctuations in workload based on daily mission requirements.
  • This position may require occasional overnight travel as assigned.
  • This position may require occasional Saturday work and/or shift work (work before 0600 or after 1800 hours).

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience and/or education requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, Ameri Corps) and other organizations. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Experience Required (GS-05)
At least one year of specialized experience prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled such as: briefing personnel on procedures to ensure compliance with regulations; obtaining data from others to verify eligibilities for employment and/or to update records;

utilizing office automation software programs to accomplish tasks (such as preparing correspondence, reports, spreadsheets, graphs, etc.). This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-4).

Education
Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial, or technical school, junior college, college or university.

Combination of Education and Experience
A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.

Typing
This position requires a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute (WPM) based on a 5‑minute sample with three or fewer errors.

Time in Grade Requirement
Candidates may be advanced without time restriction up to GS‑5 if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee held within the preceding 52 weeks under their latest non‑temporary competitive appointment.
