Beyond TV news distribution, our newsrooms publish via the Spectrum News app and connected television. We're committed to providing viewers with 24-hour news—no matter how, when and where they want it.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will make sure that the top stories are covered each shift by coordinating news crews, resources, and logistics. You will assign news units to cover specific topics in accordance with priorities. In addition, you will work with the news-gathering staff to develop story ideas. You'll be part of a collaborative team that creates compelling, timely, and accurate content to connect with viewers across traditional and digital platforms.

Keeping the desk running smoothly by communicating continuously with assignment editors on other shifts.

Creating connections by contacting beat reporters, wire services, newspapers, magazines, and radio and television stations.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Experience:

    Newsroom or related experience - 5+ years
  • Education:

    Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Communication or comparable television work experience preferred
  • Technical

    Skills:

    Demonstrated news judgment and passion for news
  • Skills:

    Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; ability to clearly communicate solutions; and able to relate well with populations, ability to interface with internal company personnel
  • Abilities:
    Ability to develop sources, ability to organize and manage multiple priorities and work under time pressure deadline, may be required to lift up to 5 pounds
  • Travel Ability:
    Must be open to travel to discover the important stories in your neighborhood and willing to interact with the community
  • Schedule:

    Ability to work different shifts, be flexible with schedule changes and able to cover stand-by responsibilities when assigned
  • Working Conditions:

    Works inside a climate-controlled environment throughout the year. Works in an open newsroom setting with a semi-noisy environment
