The Department of Mathematics at UMass Dartmouth invites applications for a full-time teaching faculty member (Assistant or Associate Teaching Professor) with expertise in college-level mathematics pedagogy, as well as coordination of instruction, pedagogical innovation, and student retention and engagement in lower-division mathematics courses. This is a non-tenure-track position that begins September 1, 2026. Initial appointment is for two years, with the possibility of renewal and promotion.

The appointment level will be made commensurate with experience.

The successful candidate will also be appointed Coordinator of Lower-Division Mathematics. Reporting to the Chair of the Mathematics Department, and acting as a liaison with the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, the Coordinator will work closely with mathematics faculty, and engage with faculty stakeholders across the University (including Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Nursing, and Medical Laboratory Science) to coordinate instruction, pedagogical development, assessment of student learning outcomes, and student recruitment and retention initiatives to promote student success in lower-division math courses.

The initial appointment as Coordinator of Lower-Division Mathematics will be for two years. Subsequent renewal of the Coordinator position will be subject to periodic review by the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.

The Department of Mathematics has nationally and internationally recognized strengths in scientific computing and computational mathematics. The department provides a wide range of first-year and introductory math courses taken by students across the University, offers a variety of undergraduate majors and minors, participates in the Engineering and Applied Sciences Ph.D. program, and, together with the Department of Computing and Information Sciences, offers a master's degree in Data Science.

Duties
Teaching faculty in the Department of Mathematics are required to provide undergraduate instruction, student advising, and administrative service to the Department, College of Arts and Sciences, and University.

The successful candidate will teach introductory and lower-division mathematics courses. As Coordinator of Lower-Division Mathematics, the successful candidate will also coordinate instruction, promote pedagogical innovation and improvement, conduct regular assessment of student learning, and implement student recruitment, success, and retention initiatives within lower-division math courses across the University.

Minimum Qualifications

• A PhD in Mathematics or Mathematics Education, or Applied Mathematics, , Statistics, Data Science, or a closely related field with a proven record of teaching experience and/or research in Mathematics Education;
• Doctoral degree conferred before September 1, 2026;
• Experience and demonstrated effectiveness in teaching undergraduate mathematics courses, including courses at the introductory level;
• Ability to teach all lower-level (first two years) mathematics courses.
• Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis.
• Employment is contingent upon verification of background/credentials and work authorization.

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience overseeing first-year mathematics, including a focus on coordination of instruction, pedagogical innovation and assessment of student learning outcomes, and demonstrated improvement of student engagement and retention in first-year mathematics courses;
• Demonstrated experience and interest in supporting undergraduate mathematics teaching and learning, including project-based active learning;
• Ability to teach upper-division mathematics courses;
• Demonstrated experience in conducting assessment, including program-level assessment of mathematics curriculum and outcomes-based assessment of student learning in mathematics courses.

SALARY:

Assistant Teaching Professor - $70,000.00-$75,000.00

Associate Teaching Professor - $76,000-$84,000

Coordinator Role - Annual stipend - $7,000
