WILLIAMS COLLEGE DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHOLOGY invites applications for a one‑year position with the possibility of extending for an additional year. The Visiting Assistant Professor position in Social Psychology will begin July 1, 2026. Applications are welcome in all areas of specialization within social psychology. The teaching load is two courses, or the equivalent, in the fall semester, and two courses, or the equivalent, in the spring semester.
These courses could consist of a subset of the following courses:
- an introductory course in social psychology
- an upper‑level research seminar in the candidate's area of specialty with an accompanying laboratory (this course with its weekly lab would be the equivalent of two courses)
- statistics and methods course (this course with its weekly lab would be the equivalent of two courses)
- the social psychology section of a team‑taught introductory psychology course

Qualifications

Applications must be submitted online at Your application should include a cover letter in which you speak to your ability to work effectively with an undergraduate student population that is broadly diverse with regard to gender, race, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion. Your application should include a vita, three letters of reference, and three writing samples (articles). You should also submit a research statement that includes a description of how undergraduates will be included in your research program.
Finally, please submit a teaching statement that includes a description of your pedagogical approach, evidence of teaching effectiveness (i.e., course evaluations), and a brief description of the course you would like to teach as an upper‑level research seminar. Review of applications will begin immediately on a rolling basis. Please apply no later than March 15th. Preliminary interviews will be held online, followed by an on‑campus interview.
