PROGRAM
DESCRIPTION:
The Exam School Initiative (ESI) is a racial equity initiative intended to expand access to Exam Schools for students who have been historically underrepresented as compared to the overall BPS student demographics who have been historically underrepresented in the three exam schools:
Boston Latin Academy (BLA), the John
D. O'Bryant School of Mathematics and Science (O'Bryant) and Boston Latin School (BLS). The Office of Teaching & Learning seeks culturally responsive instructors who believe in the talent and potential of ESI students and will advance the racial equity mission of the program. ESI teachers will provide rigorous instruction during the four-week program while cultivating positive relationships with students and families.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversee BPS Summer Learning planning and programming at a specific program site. Supervise teachers and paraprofessionals, serve as site lead for instructional support, and oversee operational management for programming. Work to:
* Stem summer learning loss and increase academic achievement
* Develop student socio-emotional skills and increase student efficacy by building skills and competencies
* Promote student health and wellness.
Specific duties may include, but are not limited to:
* Provide leadership and management at one program site
* Participate in the hiring of teachers, paraprofessionals and support staff
* Support efforts to recruit, enroll and engage students in the summer program
* Supervise instruction, services and the monitoring of student progress
* Support high-quality instruction by facilitating professional development and curriculum planning sessions, modeling instructional practices, and observing instruction and providing feedback
* Engage and collaborate with families as partners in planning and problem solving
* Establish a culturally competent, trauma sensitive learning climate
* Manage student data systems (e.g. attendance, schedules, etc.)
Administrative
* Provide leadership and management at one program site.
* Be on-site and supervise the program for at least 6-hour day, 5 days per week for the four weeks of the summer program or until all students have been dismissed for the day (due to late/missed buses)
* Attend ESI interview sessions prior to the start of the program.
* Attend designated ESI team meetings in spring and organize and attend designated ESI Professional Development (PD)
* Be available to participate in planning activities immediately upon hiring.
* Plan and participate in family engagement activities to support student attendance and participation
* Participate in hiring, curriculum and operational planning and implementation at a site
* Adhere to ESI policies and ensure compliance with policy across the site
* Adhere to Superintendent Circulars, particularly with respect to student safety, and emphasize the importance of these policies to all staff
* Maintain confidentiality and privacy of all student-specific information
* Complete all necessary paperwork in a timely fashion
* Monitor and respond to email, GChat, and phones closely (starting at the point of hire and concluding the week after ESI) for communication from the Central Office, ESI staff, and families
Operational
* Follow and train all staff on the ESI protocols for loading and unloading buses and for ensuring student and staff safety throughout the program, including daily preparation of bus labels and lists
* Demonstrate excellent organizational and time management skills.
* Oversee the implementation of effective processes for student safety, health, and wellness.
* Manage student and staff information using approved ESI data systems (e.g. attendance, daily schedules, payroll, and timesheets, etc.)
* Coordinate with related service providers to ensure appropriate student and staff schedules
* Create a team-oriented culture to increase staff engagement in student outcomes.
* Supervise progress report data collection and finalization of reports and ensure timely completion.
* Approve and finalize all reports within data systems.
Instructional
* Ensure that ESI IEP goals, objectives, and services are provided in accordance with individualized students' IEPs and the completion of progress reports
* Monitor the delivery of behavioral support plans, safety plans, and ABA services as recommended by students' IEPs
* Supervise instruction, services, and the monitoring of student regression and progress
