Tantasqua Regional High School
Technical School Director
Reports to:
High School Building Principal
Responsibilities:
The Technical Director, in conjunction with the High School Principal, is responsible for planning and implementing programs and activities that integrate technical education with interrelated academic programming and scheduling of students. The Director develops, coordinates, and evaluates career and technical education (CTE) and related credit programs.
Essential Functions:
● Supervision and implementation of the high school's career and technical education competency-based curriculum, including the Chapter 74 Cooperative Education Program.
● Provide general supervision of related instructional areas, including shops and classrooms, where career and technical education is conducted.
● In conjunction with the TRHS Building Principal, supervise recruiting, screening, and professional development of the school's career and technical staff.
● Prepare and recommend an annual career and technical education budget request to the Director of Business and Finance through the TRHS Building Principal.
● Prepare grant applications and develop statistics, accessing federal and state funds.
● Oversee the development of the state-mandated Trade Advisory and General Advisory boards.
● Develop and oversee a program of public relations designed to further the community's understanding and support of Career and Technical Education with news releases, development of brochures, and business contacts.
● Oversee the coordination of the school and shop-related projects, as well as on-site and off-site construction activities.
● Oversee the application process and placement of career and technical education students.
● Promote educational integration and instructional leadership in state-mandated competency and applied curricular initiatives.
● Participate in professional meetings, conferences, and workshops, supervise all certified and non-certified staff assigned to the facility, and establish expectations for student learning performance, conduct, and attendance.
● Implement federal and state laws, administrative regulations, and school committee policies, as they apply to the local school.
● Demonstrate fiduciary responsibility through effective development and management of the budget and school activity funds.
● Foster positive student, parent, and staff relationships.
● In conjunction with the TRHS Building Principal, the Technical Director recruit, interview, and recommend highly qualified staff members for hire.
● Along with all high school administrators, issues student discipline in accordance with District philosophy, policy and protocols.
● Attend school committee meetings, as required.
● Adhere to the standards of the school's accrediting agencies.
● Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal.
Ability to:
● Manage an efficient office and record-keeping system, including the proper and efficient use and conservation of all assets and resources assigned to the school
● Maintain open lines of communication with the TRHS Building Principal, Superintendent, and pertinent central office administrators regarding school-based issues.
● Demonstrate effective command of written and oral language
● Practice a collaborative leadership style
Knowledge of:
● District policies, rules, and regulations applicable to the school district and the
school site
● State and federal laws relating to contract management, methods, and procedures of supervision and evaluation
● State Chapter 74 programing regulations
● Current education theories and practices
Qualifications:
● Evidence of the ability to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed above are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
● Professional verification of leadership experience in public school education, including at least three years of successful experience as a classroom teacher at the applicable level
Education:
● Master's Degree or higher from an accredited college or university in educational administration or a related field
