Full Time Children's Librarian

Position:
Full‑time Children's Librarian in the Children's Room at the Central Library of Springfield City Library.

Hours:

37.5 per week. Optional overtime includes 5‑hour Sunday shifts paid at time and a half.

• Develop and manage collection of print and non‑print materials for children.
• Plan, coordinate, and deliver programming and outreach activities for young patrons.
• Provide reference services and support to children and families.
• Assist in developing system‑wide children’s services and collaborate with the four‑person team.
• Support the Children's Services Supervisor and the Adult & Youth Information Services Manager.

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Completion of an American Library Association‑accredited Master of Library Science (MLS) program.
• Enrollment in an MLS program may also be considered.
• Excellent customer service orientation and community‑engaged approach.
• Bilingual abilities preferred (English and Spanish, Russian, Vietnamese, Arabic, Somali, Dari, or other community languages).
• Residency requirement: new hires may establish residency within two years.

MLS/Master’s degree in Library Science.

Annual salary: $54,704.33 (plus optional overtime). Position is unionized with a 2% raise effective July 1, 2026. Generous benefits package.
