Responsibilities
The Department of Environment, Society, and Sustainability seeks a Tenure-Track Faculty in Engineering beginning September 1, 2026. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching, scholarship, and service in the following ways:
- Develop and teach introductory and advanced engineering and physics courses for a diverse student body, including introductory physical science classes for pre‑service education majors.
- Incorporate current industry trends and best practices into coursework and create an active, collaborative learning environment.
- Supervise the Pre‑Engineering program, oversee advising and mentoring, and explore development of standalone engineering programs aligned with the College of STEM’s strengths.
- Engage in professional development, maintain an active scholarship record, mentor and advise undergraduate students, and provide service through shared governance.
- Participate in curriculum development, course and program assessment, faculty/student research, and departmental and university governance.
Minimum qualifications for this position include:
- A Ph.D. in a field of Engineering or Physics (or ABDs considered). Degree must be completed by August 31, 2026.
- A strong and demonstrated commitment to undergraduate education and fostering a collaborative atmosphere among students and faculty.
- Ability to connect with and support first‑generation students and students from historically underrepresented groups in STEM.
- Experience or willingness to participate in teaching, mentoring, research, or service activities that promote equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Experience with AutoCAD and/or SOLIDWORKS or similar CAD tools.
- Knowledge of MATLAB, Python, or other programming languages.
This full‑time, exempt, benefits‑eligible position is in the Massachusetts State College Association (MSCA) bargaining unit. Salary is commensurate with experience in accordance with Appendix O of the MSCA contract. A reasonable starting salary range for an Assistant Professor appointment is $85,000–$90,000. The position is eligible for benefits. Eligible candidates will also be required to undergo criminal history and sexual offender record checks.
