Position Summary

Under the direction of the Principal or their designee, the campus aide provides supervision and direction to students in areas of the school campus and maintains classroom continuity to ensure that students continue to learn in their teacher’s absence. The aide promotes a safe environment for students and staff during classroom and non‑classroom activities and delivers Framingham Public Schools’ high expectations for achievement, equal access to instruction, and the closing of opportunity gaps.

  • Communication & Interpersonal

    Skills:

    Strong oral and written communication; ability to present information clearly and respond effectively to questions from students, staff, parents, and community members; maintain positive, collaborative relationships.
  • Critical Thinking & Problem Solving: Sound reasoning and analytical skills to evaluate information, define problems, collect and interpret data, draw conclusions, and recommend actions.
  • Instructional & Professional Practice: Use professional literature, evidence‑based research, and ongoing professional learning to inform instructional decisions; evaluate student skills; write clear reports; plan and implement lessons aligned with district and school goals.
  • Data & Technology Proficiency: Use data to inform instruction and improve outcomes; proficiency in instructional technology and Google Workspace for Education; willingness to learn new tools.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions or duties are illustrations of the work performed.

I. Instruction Time
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to students’ maturity.
  • Guide learning toward curriculum goals; establish clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects.
  • Employ instructional methods and materials that best meet objectives.
  • Assist administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life; enforce classroom behavior and procedure.
  • Remain calm, efficient, and positive.
  • Supervise students in the classroom and other settings (lunch, recess).
  • Ensure health and safety of students in care.
  • Support small groups as needed.
  • Respond to student questions and provide guidance.
  • Address emergencies per school policies.
II. Non‑Instruction Time
  • Supervise students during lunch; maintain a positive, safe atmosphere.
  • Circulate through cafeteria; assist with opening packages and milk cartons.
  • Cleans up spills and provides additional assistance.
  • Assist students through cafeteria line in an orderly fashion.
  • Ensure students behave appropriately.
  • Assist staff with lunchroom clean‑up.
  • Interact with students to maintain order and provide assistance.
  • Adhere to PBIS routines for the cafeteria.
  • Direct student movement to and from cafeteria and classrooms safely.
  • Report disciplinary and other concerns to the building administrator and/or classroom teacher.
  • Respond to emergency situations to resolve safety concerns.
  • Report safety, sanitary, or fire hazards immediately.
  • Represent the school and district professionally to parents, community, staff, and students.
  • Assist with arrival and dismissal procedures, including coverage for ELT programming.
  • Monitor hallways and bathrooms.
III. Safety & Security
  • Monitor video surveillance daily; report malfunctions and recommend enhancements.
  • Perform daily building security checks; report breaches to administration.
