Certificates, Licenses, Registrations- Valid Massachusetts Teaching License – School Nurse (All Levels)
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited institution.
- Preferred professional experience in school, pediatric, or public health nursing.
- Preferred bilingual proficiency in Spanish and/or Portuguese.
- Clinical Expertise: Knowledge of nursing principles, pediatric care, and infectious disease management.
- Clinical Supervision: Ability to evaluate and supervise nursing practice of RNs, LPNs, and CNAs in accordance with the Massachusetts Nurse Practice Act.
- Medical Assessment: Ability to interpret complex medical data to inform Special Education (SPED) evaluations and Individualized Health Care Plans (IHCPs).
- Emergency Leadership: Ability to manage medical emergencies, allergy protocols, and technology‑dependent student care.
- Data Integrity & Compliance: Skill in maintaining and auditing computerized medical records for state‑mandated screenings and immunizations.
- Compliance & Ethics: Thorough knowledge of ethical standards, confidentiality, and record‑keeping in school social work/counseling contexts.
- Instructional Technology: Proficiency with Google Workspace for Education and specialized data‑tracking software.
- Communication: Ability to convey clinical observations clearly to teachers, parents, and staff, translating them into actionable educational strategies.
- Cultural Proficiency: Demonstrated competence in fostering equity and inclusion, ensuring language accessibility in all communications.
- Professionalism & Clinical Composure: Reliable attendance, professional demeanor, and objective judgment in high‑stakes emotional situations.
- Initiate and oversee all state‑mandated screening programs (vision, hearing, postural, BMI) and facilitate immunization compliance.
- Triage students and staff with injuries or illnesses, administer medication per school policy and state regulations.
- Develop individualized health care plans (IHCPs) for students with documented health needs and provide special care for technology‑dependent students.
- Educate and promote compliance with universal precautions and identify unsafe conditions in the school environment.
- Collaborate with school personnel to develop and facilitate safety plans for students with chronic health conditions.
- Consult with teachers regarding health issues that may impact learning and assist in modifying educational programs to meet health needs.
- Act as a nurse educator for students, parents, and staff on specific health topics and wellness.
- Maintain computerized medical records and submit all reports mandated by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.
- Provide interpretation of health assessments and medical data for Special Education (SPED) evaluations.
- Commit to ongoing professional development, staying current with evidence‑based practices and antiracist pedagogical frameworks.
