POSITION: MS Social Studies Teacher

Job Description:
Under the direction of the School Principal, the Middle School Social Studies Teacher assesses, plans, and provides engaging learning experiences in social studies for students in a variety of educational settings. The person in this position is responsible for creating a dynamic and inclusive classroom environment that promotes historical inquiry, civic understanding, and critical thinking. The teacher ensures that students develop a strong understanding of historical events, geography, economics, and civics while fostering respect for diverse perspectives and cultures.
The social studies teacher supports students in developing analytical and research skills through differentiated instruction, discussion-based learning, and inquiry-driven activities.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge of: the necessary principles and application of theory into practice for effective instruction and positive behavioral supports that are beneficial for implementation with all students with disabilities; MA History and Social Science Curriculum Frameworks and instructional techniques; human behavior, development, and skill performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders;

The Middle School Social Studies Teacher also demonstrates the ability to provide positive behavioral support to students in a group and in an individual setting; demonstrates an understanding of the federal, state, and local mandates governing the determination and delivery of special education services; completes observations and reports pertaining to learning behaviors of students; displays the ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office and school-based staff, students, parents and community members.
Overall, the educator possesses excellent human relations skills and a working knowledge of the English language in written and verbal form.

Instruction & Curriculum Implementation
* Develop and deliver engaging social studies instruction aligned with the Massachusetts History and Social Science Curriculum Frameworks.
* Teach middle school students about history, geography, civics, economics, and cultural studies.
* Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs and academic abilities.
* Promote critical thinking, research, and discussion through inquiry-based learning activities.
* Integrate primary and secondary sources, technology, and interdisciplinary connections to enhance student learning.
* Encourage students to develop civic awareness, historical perspective, and responsible citizenship.
Classroom Management
* Create a positive, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment that supports active student engagement.
* Establish clear classroom expectations and procedures that promote collaboration and responsible behavior.
* Utilize effective classroom management strategies that support a productive learning environment.
* Monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback to support academic growth.
Assessment & Student Support
* Develop and administer assessments to measure student understanding and progress.
* Use formative and summative assessments to inform instruction and adjust teaching strategies.
* Provide timely feedback to students and communicate progress with families.
* Support students with diverse learning needs by implementing accommodations and modifications as required.
Collaboration & Professional Development
* Work collaboratively with colleagues, school leadership, and district staff to support curriculum development and instructional improvement.
