Position SummaryThe Carroll School seeks teaching candidates with a growth mindset, passion, and commitment to lifelong learning. We seek candidates with experience and or interest in teaching students with language‑based learning differences and who are drawn to acquire the necessary competencies to successfully teach our learners. This is a temporary role from November 2025 through June 2026. The position reports to the Middle School Tutoring Department Head and may provide individualized, pair, and/or small‑group Orton‑Gillingham instruction to students at the Carroll School.
- Work with students in one‑to‑one, pairs, and small group tutorials, teaching reading concepts and strategies using the Orton‑Gillingham approach within the Carroll School language curriculum.
- Meet regularly with classroom teachers and the Department Head to share information about each student’s acquisition of language skills and overall performance.
- Research and select learning materials and books to facilitate tutoring; design individualized multisensory materials.
- Administer curriculum‑based assessments designed to measure student progress.
- Write reports addressing progress and areas of concern as part of the trimester report writing system.
- Complete student reading and spelling inventories as part of progress monitoring.
- Participate in school‑sponsored professional development days and continue to advance to the Certified Level of Orton‑Gillingham training.
- Attend regularly scheduled departmental meetings and all faculty meetings as needed.
- Attend parent conferences three times a year or as needed.
- Participate in child studies as needed.
- Perform duties as required (e.g., recess duties, library coverage, activity days).
- Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and at least one to three years working with children in an academic setting.
- Associate Level Orton‑Gillingham training course with a practicum.
- Prior knowledge or willingness to train on standardized test administration techniques and procedures.
- Ability to teach using multisensory methods of instruction.
- At least 2 years of relevant experience preferred.
- Bachelor degree preferred.
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
Exact salary offered is dependent on educational credentials and years of experience: 1‑10 years $52,190‑$68,779; 11‑25 years $67,000‑$85,987.
