Criminal Justice Teacher

POSITION SUMMARY

This position offers the opportunity to develop and implement a curriculum that introduces students to the fundamentals of criminal justice. The teacher will create engaging, age‑appropriate lessons that align with state Criminal Justice standards and inform students about career pathways in law enforcement, the judicial system, corrections, and public safety. The curriculum will also connect to the high school’s Chapter 74 Criminal Justice Program to ensure a smooth transition for students who wish to pursue further studies and careers in the field.

The ideal candidate will be excited to create a dynamic and supportive learning environment that fosters critical thinking, hands‑on learning, ethical decision‑making, and a deeper understanding of criminal justice issues.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Massachusetts Certified Educator within Grades 5‑8.
  • Strongly preferred: CPR and First Aid certification with Instructor Training Certification through American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or other recognized certification programs.
  • Strongly preferred:
    Professional background and/or degree in criminal justice or law.

    RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Teach courses in Criminal Justice or humanities using the adopted course of study and appropriate learning activities.
  • Provide oversight and training to students in CPR and First Aid programming and support successful completion of their certification with demonstration and written assessments.
  • Instruct pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school department.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of a balanced Criminal Justice/Humanities program exposing students to agencies within the criminal justice system, including law enforcement, public safety, animal welfare, child welfare, emergency response, and the legal system.
  • Provide individual and small‑group instruction to adapt the curriculum for pupils with varying intellectual abilities, attitudes, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.
  • Maintain professional competence through in‑service education provided by the school department and/or self‑selected professional growth activities.
  • Collaborate with the principal and department head to develop evaluation methods in conformance with school department guidelines.
  • Select and requisition books and instructional aids, maintain required inventory records, and may request resource speakers and field trips.
  • Communicate with parents and school counselors to discuss pupil progress.
  • Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff members to help pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
  • Supervise pupils in out‑of‑classroom activities during the assigned work day.
  • Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs.
  • Participate in faculty committees and provide sponsorship of pupil activities.
  • Join all other responsibilities listed in the collective bargaining agreement between the Fall River Educators' Association and the Fall River School Committee.
  • SALARY AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

    In accordance with the Fall River Educators’ Association contract. Employment is contingent upon job performance, program needs, and funding.
