SummarySupports students with and without disabilities. Performs any combination of the following instructional tasks in a classroom, to assist teaching staff. Support may occur in an early education setting, inclusion setting, substantially separate classroom or home. This may be 1:1 or in a small group.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Provide instructional support to multilingual learners in the general education classroom under the direction of the classroom teacher
- Reinforce academic vocabulary and language structures across content areas
- Assist students in understanding classroom directions, assignments, and instructional materials by clarifying language and concepts
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and adhere to all district policies and procedures
- Assist with implementing accommodations and modifications outlined in students' educational plans when applicable
- Participate in professional development opportunities related to language acquisition, instructional strategies, and cultural competency
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, specialists, and administrators
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to support students with diverse academic, linguistic, and social-emotional needs
Experience working with children or adolescents in an educational setting.
Paraprofessionals must meet certification requirements as determined by the Every Student Succeeds Act. Individuals with an Associate's degree or higher, or who have obtained 48 credit hours from an accredited higher education institution, must provide a copy of a transcript showing the highest degree earned. The final pathway to meet this requirement is passing the Massachusetts Para Pro or Workkeys Assessment certification within the first year of employment.
