Special Education Teacher

This position reports to the Building Principal and Special Education Coordinator. The ideal candidate will have a Master's Degree in Special Education, a Massachusetts License as a Special Education Teacher, and strong collaboration/consultation skills. Excellent organization, multitasking, communication, and presentation skills are also required. Extensive knowledge and experience teaching Reading, Written Expression, and Mathematics to disabled students are preferred.

The main responsibilities include improving the skills of students with disabilities through direct teaching, evaluating students to determine eligibility and monitor progress, consulting with other teachers and staff members regarding the educational needs of assigned students, providing information to parents about their child's disabilities and progress, and directing paraprofessional staff in the implementation and monitoring of special education programs.

Specific tasks involve teaching students in various settings, collaborating with other educators, evaluating students, supervising paraprofessionals, observing students for evaluation, participating in team meetings, writing progress reports, administering and summarizing interim assessments, and providing information to district administrators for program planning and budget development.

The physical requirements include standing and walking for prolonged periods, reaching and lifting up to 25 pounds, bending and kneeling frequently, and having specific vision and hearing abilities. The position also requires sustained energy, the ability to respond quickly to emergencies, and the ability to push or pull classroom furniture or equipment.
