Summer Activity Specialist
Camp Grossman is looking for Specialists to lead various camp activities (arts, music, drama, sports, dance, cooking, mountain biking, climbing, boating, fishing, jewelry-making, knitting, gymnastics, rock climbing, ropes, and more). This full‑time, on‑site summer role is for enthusiastic, compassionate individuals who love working with kids and are passionate about their specialty area.
Primary Responsibilities- Plan and lead creative, safe, and engaging age‑appropriate activities for assigned campers.
- Organize, manage, and maintain all equipment and supplies, regularly monitoring to ensure proper working order and safety.
- Coordinate with the Program Director to order and restock supplies during summer operations, and complete end‑of‑season inventories for off‑season ordering.
- Join all staff in the parking lot in the morning and afternoon to welcome the safe arrival and departure of campers.
- Plan and lead an activity or help with a cookout one or two evenings throughout the summer.
- Create a welcoming dynamic that contributes to an environment where everyone is valued and respected.
- Participate as a team member and attend all staff meetings during or after camp as required.
- Support JCC Greater Boston’s mission, vision, and values of belonging, joyfulness, collaboration, and transformation.
- Represent the organization, modeling excellence and achievement.
- Complete all staff payroll and onboarding on time before orientation.
- Complete all pre‑camp asynchronous online training modules and attend all pre‑camp virtual and in‑person orientation sessions.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Provide direction, guidance, mentorship, feedback, and supervision of assistant(s).
- Create and facilitate an environment where employees can achieve individual goals.
- Build and maintain a positive working relationship for professional growth.
- Write and conduct a mid‑summer evaluation of assistant with growth suggestions.
- Write and conduct an end‑summer evaluation with recommendation for re‑hire.
- Uphold policies and report related issues to the Specialist Supervisor or Program Director.
- Location:
Outdoor camp in Dover, MA. - Camp day: 8:30 – 4:00 Monday – Friday (regular season June 29 – August 21, optional “9th Week”).
- Staff meetings:
Four on Monday afternoons at camp and/or evenings at JCC Greater Boston. - Sunday Family Day on Sunday, July 26 and/or 1 or 2 evenings during the summer.
- Pay:
Starting $16 per hour, adjusted for qualifications and experience. Competitive internal equity. - Benefits: JCC fitness center access, competitive pay, and potential discounts for camper enrollment.
- High school graduate (strongly preferred).
- Experience leading children in your subject area is a plus.
- Experience working in and/or attending summer camp is a plus.
- Enjoys working with children.

- Work on‑site in Dover, Massachusetts.
- Navigate 70 acres of rugged, uneven, and rustic campgrounds independently.
- Comfortable working outdoors or indoors without air conditioning.
- Work well in a busy, dynamic, and sometimes noisy environment.
- Lift and carry objects up to 30–40 pounds.
- Sit, kneel, and get down to eye level with children regularly.
