Teen Coordinator

This position is primarily responsible for representing the YMCA personally and in a professional manner in accordance with the mission and goals of the YMCA of Greater Boston. Under the leadership and direction of the Director of Operations, this position is also responsible for the planning and implementation of youth development and teen activities, ensuring that the program participants receive a quality experience which maintains health and safety as a priority.

The programs should include informal, educational and recreational activities which are appropriate for each age and stage of development and support the Y's three focus areas;
Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility.

Key Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES/PRINCIPLE

ACTIVITIES:

• Help to develop and implement quality programs to meet the needs of middle and high school students, ensuring that YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures are being enforced and respected.
• Work with the Director of Operations, to set goals and review the standards in the implementation of activities that foster creativity and awareness including various cultural, educational, recreational, environmental and social issues.
• Work with the management team of YMCA to coordinate service delivery and ensure a youth/teen "friendly and safe" environment.
• Maintain and monitor enrollment and participation in Y programs.
• Ensure that teens participate in all required training, special events, and community collaborations.
• Support the Director of Operations with the recruitment of teens in community.
• Attend YMCA, community, collaborative and other meetings as requested by the Director of Operations.
• Increase visibility in the community through weekly contacts using social media.
• Maintain and care for all program areas and supplies.
• Meet all reporting and tracking requirements for collaborative programs (CACFP, youth memberships and Youth Worker paperwork).
• Communicate program information, problems and concerns as they occur.
• Abide by established YMCA policies, procedures, regulations and guidelines; ask when in doubt.
• Remain current in required and voluntary training in order to promote Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility.
• Job performance will be evaluated every 30 days by supervisor to ensure quality program is being delivered.
• Perform duties as requested by supervisor.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Experience in program planning and development with youth in an urban environment.
• High School Diploma or GED
• Some college courses dealing with youth education and human services.
• Experience in working with youth in education, job readiness and employment skills.
• At least one year direct experience working with middle and high school students. Must be a minimum of 21 years old

SKILLS AND

COMPETENCIES:

• Human relations skills necessary to facilitate positive and effective relationships with youth and teen program participants, community agencies, parents, staff and volunteers.
• Good organizational and leadership skills, and the ability and willingness to work with others.
• Willingness to work as part of a team to offer developmentally progressive youth and teen programs.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and reach with hands and arms.
• The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
