This position will work in-person at one of the Commonwealth’s Institutional settings (including County Houses of Correction or Dept. of Corrections).

Please note that pursuant to Massachusetts general law, contracted employees are not paid for the eleven scheduled holidays, do not receive any paid vacation, personal leave benefits, or contribute to the state retirement system or social security. As a state contracted employee, you must participate in direct deposit and contribute toward the Commonwealth of Massachusetts state alternate retirement plan ("OBRA Plan").
Responsibilities- Develop a schedule for the timely implementation of compensatory special education services through coordination with the host agency to identify times the student is available to participate in programming;
- Plan and implement effective, rigorous, and structured lessons with measurable outcomes, consistent with identified IEP goals and objectives, and also makes knowledge accessible to the student;
- Provide special education services in accordance with the student’s IEP that will support the student’s meaningful progress towards earning a high school equivalency (HSE) credential or a diploma;
- Use instructional practices that reflect high expectations, are engaging, and are personalized to accommodate diverse learning styles, needs, interests, and levels of readiness;
- Use a variety of informal and formal assessment methods to measure student learning, growth, and understanding;
- Analyze data from assessments, draw conclusions, and use data to inform instruction and track progress toward IEP goals and objectives;
- Monitor and assess ongoing student progress;
- Complete/maintain student attendance reports and other required student/program information in an accurate and timely fashion;
- Create and maintain a safe and collaborative learning environment that will motivate the student to take academic risks, challenge themselves, and claim ownership of their learning;
- Actively create and maintain an environment in which the student’s background, identity, strengths, and challenges are valued and respected;
- When applicable, per facility procedures, provide the facility with curriculum and/or other instructional materials in advance of services;
- Follow all safety and security requirements and procedures of the facility;
- Participate in facility education and training and/or background checks/pre-approval as required by the facility;
- Demonstrate skill in behavior management to maintain a safe, secure, and effective educational environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge and application of Massachusetts-specific laws, regulations, and guidance related to students with disabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to effect change that promotes access and equitable outcomes for students with disabilities.
- Prior experience with delivering special education services in secure or clinical institutional settings or comparably complex educational environments.
Applicants must be a Massachusetts licensed teacher.
