The Dighton-Rehoboth Regional School District is seeking a highly skilled, collaborative, and student‑centered special education teacher to lead our SAILS Program at Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School. This position offers an exciting opportunity for an educator who is passionate about developing innovative programming for students with significant learning needs while preparing them for successful adult lives through meaningful academic, functional, vocational, and transition experiences.
The SAILS Program is a substantially separate classroom serving high school students whose educational programming emphasizes functional academics, communication, independent living skills, social‑emotional development, adaptive behavior, self‑determination, and transition planning. The successful candidate will provide differentiated instruction based on individual student needs, utilizing evidence‑based practices and curricular resources such as Unique Learning System and News2
You, while maintaining the flexibility to adapt instruction using a variety of materials and instructional approaches.Instruction should be engaging, individualized, and focused on preparing students for life beyond high school. Students should have opportunities to develop skills in functional reading, writing, mathematics, daily living, vocational readiness, community participation, and self‑advocacy. The classroom's fully equipped life‑skills kitchen and other functional learning environments should be incorporated into instruction to provide authentic, hands‑on learning experiences that foster independence and real‑world problem‑solving.
Transition planning is an essential component of this position. The teacher will collaborate with families, related service providers, community partners, and district staff to develop meaningful transition experiences aligned with each student's post‑secondary goals. This includes supporting vocational exploration, community‑based learning opportunities, and collaborating with staff from the DR MERITS Academy to ensure thoughtful, student‑centered transition planning for students who may continue their educational programming in the district's 18–22 transition program.
