Position Summary

The Extended School Year (ESY) Assistant Teacher provides high-level instructional support to teachers, ensuring the effective delivery and development of specialized summer programs for the district’s students. The role supports daily schedules, curriculum activities, and facilitates communication among staff, families, and colleagues. This position requires exceptional problem‑solving, flexibility, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast‑paced environment.

Training and Experience
  • Educational Requirement: High school diploma required; additional post‑secondary credits in a related field preferred.
  • Professional

    Experience:

    Minimum one (1) year of experience as an educator in a school or community‑based setting.
  • Specialized Knowledge: Some experience working with special education students or children with Autism, PDD, or other neurological disorders preferred.
  • Language Proficiency: Fluency in Spanish and/or Portuguese strongly preferred.

  • Communication & Presentation: Clear oral and written communication with staff, parents, and the public.
  • Analytical Thinking & Problem Solving: Ability to analyze data and inform decisions for student success.
  • Relationship Building & Cultural Proficiency: Work with diverse families in an equitable, inclusive manner.

  • Organizational Management: Prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Compliance & Confidentiality: Adherence to district, state, and federal laws; maintain confidential records per FERPA.
  • Instructional Leadership: Apply current research and theory in education; demonstrate teaching, coaching, and leadership skills.
  • Technology: Competence with Google Workspace and instructional technology.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the ESY teacher to design, develop, and refine high‑quality out‑of‑school programming.
  • Monitor student attendance and academic performance; use data to support student growth.
  • Provide support to maintain a safe, productive environment for staff and students.
  • Document incidents and prepare reports per district protocols.
  • Deliver high‑quality academic and enrichment curricula, ensuring engaging activities.
  • Motivate and mentor students to achieve rigorous academic and personal objectives.
  • Participate in required professional development and training sessions.
  • Help students connect current academic success to future college or career pathways.
  • Cultivate an intentional culture of accomplishment, belonging, and respect.
  • Build relationships with students, families, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Facilitate successful integration and equitable access for all learners in inclusion programming.

  • Program Coordinator (or designee)
Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) Classification
  • Position is Non‑Exempt (Hourly).
Terms of Employment
  • Program Duration: July and early August; attendance at mandatory orientation and training required.
  • Attendance Requirement: Consistent attendance for full duration is prerequisite.
  • Contractual Status: Covered under the Framingham School Committee Contract.
  • Operational Flexibility: District may transfer personnel to different sites or programs.
