Position: A.T.L.S. Transition Community Coach
Location: South Dartmouth

Purpose

Under the guidance of the ATLAS Transition Program Teacher, the Job Coach facilitates acquisition of vocational skills and monitors on‑the‑job performance for students. The role is responsible for the organization and implementation of community‑based transition programming, providing essential support to both vocational environments and the classroom.

Responsibilities
  • Identify and secure community work sites that align with student interests, needs, and career goals.
  • Assist employers in adapting tasks to create appropriate and accessible opportunities for students.
  • Build sustainable partnerships with site managers; troubleshoot potential problems and resolve concerns to ensure placement stability.
  • Act as the primary link between the school district, site coordinators, parents, and students.
  • Instruct students on specific job tasks, productivity expectations, and workplace behaviors.
  • Help students develop job‑related communication, problem‑solving skills, and academic reflections (e.g., activity logs).
  • Collaborate with Special Education Teachers to integrate vocational skills into the academic curriculum.
  • Implement specific therapeutic strategies as designed by the educational and clinical teams.
  • Evaluate the quality and quantity of student work based on IEP goals and site supervisor feedback.
  • Maintain accurate reflection logs, time sheets, and progress reports; provide regular updates to teachers and parents.
  • Develop and implement student job and transportation schedules in coordination with the Central Office and site managers.
  • Provide disability awareness training and support to site supervisors to ensure effective supervision of students.
  • Assist classroom teachers with non‑vocational activities as directed and participate in routine staff development.
Qualifications & Working Conditions
  • Must be able to transport students during school hours as required; travel to various community locations is a daily expectation.
  • Must remain flexible with frequent changes in schedules, student placements, and daily routines.
  • Maintain adherence to student privacy and district confidentiality policies.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for training site supervisors and advocating for student needs.
  • At least two years of relevant experience preferred. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
  • Work year: 182 days plus 16 days in the summer. Salary: $30-$35 per hour.
