Job Description

HOURS: Monday through Friday, 6.5 hours per day plus a half hour unpaid lunch.

COMPENSATION: Per the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional School Committee and the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional Secretaries and Assistants Association on the DY website.

Paraprofessionals must meet certification requirements as determined by the Every Student Succeeds Act. Individuals with an Associate’s degree or higher, or who have obtained 48 credit hours from an accredited institution, must provide a transcript of the highest degree earned. The required pathway is to pass the Massachusetts Para Pro or Workkeys Assessment within the first year of employment.

SUMMARY: Supports students, including those with low‑incidence disabilities, autism, social‑emotional needs, and behavioral concerns. Performed instructional tasks in classrooms, related arts, recess, cafeteria, and other school environments.

• Collaborate with classroom teachers to coordinate instruction.
• Plan, prepare, and develop various teaching materials.
• Present content to students using diverse methods and techniques.
• Assist students individually or in groups with lesson assignments.
• Participate in required training.
• Provide direct instructional support to students with and without disabilities.
• Implement and adapt modifications, accommodations, and environmental changes as directed.
• Collect student performance data as directed by licensed staff.
• Support behavioral and social‑emotional needs using proactive, pro‑social strategies.
• Assist with special‑education equipment (e.g., assistive technology).
• Supervise students during play and lunch periods.
• Promote student independence while meeting individual needs.
• Assist with personal hygiene, direct behavior services, and data collection.
• Help lift and/or transfer students into medical equipment and adaptive devices as required in IEPs.
• Maintain confidentiality of student records.
• Model appropriate dress, punctuality, and attendance.
• Support toileting and daily living skills for students.

• CPR and First Aid certification desirable.
• Annual participation in training for blood‑borne pathogens, universal precautions, 51A, bullying, epi‑pen, and kindergarten curriculum.
• Highly qualified, with an associate’s degree, at least two years of college, or a passing score on the Para Pro test.
• Knowledge of child development (physical, social/emotional, intellectual) and at least 12 months of experience with young students.
