Adjunct Marine Transportation Instructor
General ResponsibilitiesInstruct college-level Marine Transportation courses. Preferred specializations include navigation, ship-handling and shipboard safety, seamanship, and watch standing. Potential course taught may include Integrated Navigation, Advanced Ship handling, Coastal Navigation and Electronic Navigation. Massachusetts Maritime Academy follows a "Learn-Do-Learn" model, where our hands‑on simulation labs and classroom experiences enable our students to "apply" textbook knowledge in the field.
Qualifications and Requirements- Hold a Bachelor's Degree in Marine Transportation or related field;
- Hold a Third Mate license with current Standard of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) qualifications.
- Have at least three years of professional maritime experience
- Possess an understanding of teaching in the university setting
- Exhibit excellent oral and written communications skills
- Understand the unique mission of the university as a maritime academy
- Holder a master’s degree in Marine Transportation or related field.
- Have at least three years of maritime experience or teaching experience at an accredited institution of higher learning
Pay is based on the number of credits taught at a rate of $2,343.75/credit. The semester credit load is variable, typically between 3 and 11 credits, depending on departmental needs and candidate's expertise.
