Hours & Compensation

Hours: Monday through Friday, 6.5 hours per day plus a half hour unpaid lunch.

Compensation: Per the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Dennis‑Yarmouth Regional School Committee and the Dennis‑Yarmouth Regional Secretaries and Assistants Association.

Job Description

Summary: Supports students, which may include low‑incidence disabilities, autism, social‑emotional needs, and behavioral concerns. Performs instructional tasks in a classroom, assisting teaching staff of public elementary or secondary school, as well as in kindergarten classrooms, related arts classroom, recess or cafeteria.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Discuss assigned teaching centers with classroom teacher to coordinate instruction.
  • Plan, prepare, and develop various teaching materials.
  • Present content matter to students utilizing a variety of methods and techniques.
  • Assist students individually or in groups with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts.
  • Participate in training.
  • Provide direct instructional support to students with and without disabilities in the classroom.
  • Implement and/or adapt modifications and accommodations to the environment or curricular materials as directed by the classroom teacher.
  • Collect data regarding students' performance as directed by licensed staff.
  • Support the behavioral/social‑emotional needs of children by using proactive, prosocial problem‑solving skills.
  • Assist in the support of special education students by providing assistance with equipment such as assistive technology.
  • Assist with the supervision of students during play and lunch periods.
  • Foster student independence while supporting individual needs.
  • Work may include, but is not limited to, assisting with personal hygiene, direct behavior services such as ABA, and data collection.
  • Assist in the lifting or toileting of students into medical equipment such as standers or other adaptive equipment as required in IEP.
  • Maintain proper confidentiality of student records.
  • Set a good example in terms of dress, punctuality, and attendance.
  • Support the toileting and daily living skills of students as an essential function of the job.
Qualifications
  • CPR and First Aid certifications desirable.
  • Participation in annual trainings for blood borne pathogens, universal precautions, 51A, bullying, epi‑pen, and kindergarten curriculum.
  • Must be highly qualified.
  • Associate's degree, at least 2 years of college or a passing score on the Para Pro test.
  • Knowledge of child development (intellectual, social/emotional, and physical) and at least 12 months of experience working with young students.
