Position: 1.0 Assistant Principal
Location: West Newbury

Assistant Principal
- Elementary

The Assistant Principal reports directly to the Principal. The Assistant Principal evaluates and supervises both professional and support staff. The Assistant Principal plans, organizes, and implements curricular and administrative functions for the school to provide support for the educational services with the resources available. These functions may include:
District curriculum/program leadership and school-wide programming relative to assessment, curriculum development, special education, instructional practices, staff development, parent communication, scheduling, main office management, school discipline and safety, student transportation and facilities oversight. The goal is to support the building Principal leading the school to ensure all students learn and staff work collaboratively to accomplish this.

Qualifications Preferred:

  • Master's Degree in Educational Leadership, Management or related field.
  • Licensure as an administrator/supervisor or eligible for licensure by start date required
    - Principal/Assistant Principal Gr. PK-6.
  • Prior experience in leadership roles preferred.
  • Knowledge of current Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.
  • Deep understanding of evidence-based practices for teaching in Grades PK-6
  • Knowledge of best practices for assessing student progress toward achievement of standards.
  • Knowledge of child development and best practices for supporting the social and emotional development of elementary school students
  • Knowledge of culturally-responsive classroom practices and a firm belief in celebrating diversity while improving equity and inclusion.
  • A minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience.
  • Experience as a coach or mentor is preferred.
  • Proven success as a professional-development provider and curriculum developer.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check (C.O.R.I.) and fingerprint check.

  • Stay current in the areas of teaching strategies, curriculum, and technology.
  • Support student needs related to behavior, social and emotional development.
  • Provide instructional leadership to school personnel in effective uses of best practices and resources to improve teaching and learning.
  • Collaborate with teachers to effectively integrate best practices into curriculum, instruction and assessment practices.
  • Ensure those programs and technology used support Pentucket's curriculum goals.
