Job Description

Classroom Assistants work directly under the supervision of Classroom Instructors and the Project Forward Learning Disability Specialist. The most essential function of this position is to support the design, implementation, and evaluation process of the Agriculture and Facilities course material, as directed by the instructor. Assistants will help protect the health and safety of students while adhering to confidentiality requirements and protocols of the Program.

They demonstrate integrity, respect for diversity, and all standards of ethical conduct expected of a professional at Project Forward. They will also be responsible for attendance data entry.

Examples of Duties
  • Provide direct instructional classroom support to students and staff in both classroom and field experience settings, as directed by the classroom teacher in the Agriculture and Facilities vocation.
  • Implement modifications and adaptations to the environment or with materials as directed by the classroom instructor with whom working.
  • Assist staff, as directed, in maintaining charts, data, and/or any other records related to student progress and record keeping (absences).
  • Reinforce all academic/social behaviors as taught and expected by instructor and consistent with program expectations.
  • Model appropriate social and professional skills, participation, adult behaviors, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Assist classroom instructor in the management of student behavior by applying proactive strategies when presented with adverse student behaviors.
  • Act as a cooperative team member in all course and program related experiences.
  • Maintain professional Classroom Assistant skills by attending Project Forward's in‑service meetings and workshops.
  • Provide verbal/written feedback of all requested observations for the purpose of assisting classroom instructors in evaluating students.
  • Participate in lesson and classroom activity planning only as directed by instructor.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned and/or requested from time to time by Project Forward administration or classroom instructors.
  • Requirements

    Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate degree, or equivalent experience.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Strong written skills, very strong computer skills (Microsoft Office).
  • Unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.
  • Additional Preferred Qualification

    One year of experience working with individuals with special needs.

    Additional Information

    Compensation
    : $20.00 per hour for up to 18 hours per week. Part‑time, non‑benefited, non‑unit position.

    Appointment subject to SORI, publicly accessible Massachusetts CORI and national background checks. This appointment is subject to the FY2027 budget appropriations.
