Now hiring! Are you ready to help campers reach new heights and conquer their fears? Camp Grossman is looking for a Ropes Course Specialist to lead our high and low ropes adventure program. If you’re passionate about team building, climbing safety, and witnessing those "I did it!" moments, we want you on our lines! This full‑time, on‑site summer role is perfect for a safety‑minded, encouraging leader who loves the outdoors.
PrimaryResponsibilities
- Plan and facilitate safe, engaging ropes course activities. This includes leading low‑ropes team‑building initiatives and supervising high‑ropes elements and zip lines.
- Conduct daily inspections of all cables, platforms, ropes, harnesses, and hardware. Ensure all belay techniques and safety protocols are strictly followed by staff and campers alike.
- Organize and maintain the "tackle shed," monitoring equipment wear and tear and coordinating with the Program Director for any necessary replacements or repairs.
- Coordinate with the Program Director to order and restock supplies during summer operations, and complete end‑of‑season inventories for off‑season ordering.
- Join all staff in the parking lot in the morning and afternoon to welcome the safe arrival and departure of campers.
- Role may also include planning and leading an activity, or help with a cookout, one or two evenings (after regular camp hours) throughout the course of the summer.
- Actively create a welcoming dynamic that contributes to an environment where everyone is valued and respected.
- Actively participate as an essential team member and attend all staff meetings during or after camp as required.
- Support JCC Greater Boston’s mission, vision, and values of belonging, joyfulness, collaboration, and transformation, including through role modeling.
- Enthusiastically represent the organization, modeling excellence and achievement.
- Complete all staff payroll and onboarding on time and before Orientation begins.
- Complete all pre‑camp asynchronous online training modules and attend all pre‑camp virtual and in‑person orientation sessions.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Provide ongoing direction, guidance, mentorship, feedback and supervision of assistant(s) as needed to facilitate their assistance of Specialist.
- Create/facilitate an environment where employees can achieve individual goals.
- Build and maintain a positive working relationship to achieve desired outcomes and the ongoing professional growth of the direct report.
- Write and conduct a mid‑summer evaluation of assistant, identifying key areas of growth with concrete suggestions for how to improve.
- Write and conduct an end‑summer evaluation of assistant including a recommendation for re‑hire.
- Uphold the policies of the organization and align work with the overall mission, vision and strategic objectives of the JCC; report to the Specialist Supervisor or Program Director any related issues.
We are an outdoor camp located on beautiful, wooded property in Dover, MA. The regular camp day runs from 8 30 – 4 00, Monday – Friday, for the camp season. In addition, specialists are expected to attend four staff meetings on Monday afternoons at camp and/or evenings at JCC Greater Boston, work a Sunday Family Day on July 26, and/or 1–2 evenings (Dinner provided) over the course of the summer.

Education and Experience- High school graduate – strongly preferred.
- Experience leading children in your subject area is a plus, but not necessarily required.
- Experience working in and/or attending summer camp is a plus.
* An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted at the JCC’s discretion to meet minimum criteria.
