Physical Education
Athol-Royalston Regional School District is seeking a dynamic, student-centered Physical Education & Health Teacher to join the faculty at Athol High School. The successful candidate will provide engaging instruction in physical education and health that promotes lifelong wellness, physical fitness, and healthy decision-making. The ideal candidate will foster physical literacy, teamwork, communication, personal responsibility, and social-emotional well-being through inclusive, developmentally appropriate, and engaging instruction that prepares students to lead active, healthy lives.
PrimaryTeaching Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based Physical Education and Health instruction for students in grades 9–12, aligned with the Massachusetts Physical Education Standards and Comprehensive Health Curriculum Framework.
- Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that promotes physical fitness, healthy lifestyles, respect, participation, and lifelong wellness.
- Design and implement developmentally appropriate lessons that develop students' physical literacy, movement skills, fitness knowledge, teamwork, leadership, decision-making, and overall well-being.
- Teach health education topics including nutrition, mental and emotional health, substance abuse prevention, personal safety, human growth and development, and healthy decision-making.
- Differentiated instruction and provide appropriate accommodations to meet the diverse academic, physical, social-emotional, and cultural needs of all learners, including students with disabilities and multilingual learners.
- Assess student learning using a variety of formative and summative measures, monitor progress, maintain accurate records, and provide timely, meaningful feedback to students and families.
- Promote positive sportsmanship, collaboration, responsible behavior, and respect while maintaining a safe learning environment and enforcing district policies and safety procedures.
- Collaborate with colleagues, counselors, administrators, families, and community partners to support student achievement, wellness, and a positive school culture.
- Participate in professional learning, faculty meetings, collaborative planning, and other school and district initiatives to support continuous improvement.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or designee in support of the school's mission and student success.
- Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) licensure in Physical Education (5–12) and/or licensure in Comprehensive Health, or eligibility for licensure.
- Strong classroom management and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with students and families.
- Commitment to equitable instructional practices and inclusive learning environments.

Athol is a manufacturing community, 11 miles south of New Hampshire and 75 miles west of Boston. Athol High School is located on the Southeast side of Athol at the junctions of Routes 2A (Main Street) and 32 on the shores of Lake Ellis.
