Job Description:

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

The First Year Seminar (FSM
101) is a one-credit course designed to provide students participating in the Advantage(TRIO SSS) Program with a successful transition into the College community. The workshop format of the course provides students with information pertaining to the services and resources available atthe College. Course time will be spent on adapting executivefunctioning skills to the college environment and on settingwell-informed career and educational goals. The utilization oftechnology will be introduced.

The Instructor will teach one or two 1-credit classes on Wednesdays, 11:00am-12:00pm and Thursdays, 9:30am-10:30am for theFall 2026 semester (September 8 - December 22, 2026).

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
  • Provide instruction in a face-to-face classroom.
  • Select and develop appropriate materials for class use.
  • Track and assess student progress.
  • Maintain appropriate attendance and learner records.
  • Work with Advantage Program staff to assess and addressindividual learner needs.
Requirements: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's degree in Education, Counseling, Student Services,English, or related discipline.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of diverse student populations.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Competence in the use of technology in educationalsettings.
  • One year of experience as an academic advisor/coach and/orinstructor at the college level.
  • Unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.
ADDITIONAL

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Skill using Moodle or other LMS to support student learning.
  • Experience collaborating with advisors in TRIO or similarwrap-around support program

Additional Information: COMPENSATION

Anticipated starting salary - Step 1 DCE Payscale (currently $1,512 for 1-credit course). Part-time,non-benefited, grant funded DCE/MCCC Unit Position.
