MLE Coordinator

The MLE Coordinator will have a positive impact on Multilingual Learner students' achievement by supporting teachers, principals, and district staff to maximize the effectiveness of our instructional practices. The MLE Coordinator serves a critical role as the WIDA ACCESS coordinator, instructional coach, and professional development provider for the district. The MLE Coordinator exhibits a deep understanding of second language acquisition theory and acculturation, and its impact on the social and academic development of Pre-K- 12 ML students.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Lead, assist, support:
    Program Development
  • Participate in district-based teams to promote collective leadership.
  • Work collaboratively and communicate effectively with Central Administration, Directors, and Building Principals to deliver clear and consistent expectations for instructional excellence and accountability.
  • Provide recommendations for Title III Grant funds and other grant funding monies as allocated to support the MLE program.
  • Increase the capacity of school leaders to supervise, guide, and evaluate the delivery of ELD and SEI curriculum through professional development and consultation.
  • Participate in and/or facilitate building-based PLCs, district-wide.
  • Participate in the MLPAC organization to support and strengthen family and community partnerships.
  • Lead, assist, support:
    Instruction
  • Work with teachers in classrooms, guiding educators in reflective and purposeful instruction for all MLs through professional development and coaching sessions.
  • Collaborate with teachers to plan lessons and model effective instruction.
  • Advocate for rigorous academic preparation for all MLs.
  • Help teachers implement new practices with alignment to WIDA standards.
  • Provide professional guidance and support for teachers or teams of teachers.
  • Curate and share technical materials aligned with best practices in teaching and learning.
  • Conduct consistent classroom observations and provide feedback to support teacher growth and instructional alignment with WIDA Standards, SEI instructional practices, MA Frameworks, and High-Quality Instructional Materials.
  • Model continuous learning through participation in workshops, seminars, conferences, etc. to keep current with current trends and research related to teaching English as a Second Language.
  • Promote the integration of technology for English language proficiency development.
  • Support, assist:
    Assessment and administrative tasks
  • Serve as the ACCESS Coordinator for the district.
  • Ensure timely implementation of all MLE time-related tasks, including the facilitation of Opt Out meetings with parents and guardians.
  • Ensure compliance in scheduling and monitoring the administration of the Online Screener, WIDA MODEL, ACCESS for ELLs, MCAS, and other required assessments for ML students.
  • Maintain and update the Ellevations platform by inputting ACCESS and Benchmark scores, maintaining accurate student data, remaining current in regard to platform changes, and creating and generating required documents.
  • Support teachers in the development of formative assessment tools for English language development for use within the ESL and SCI classroom.
  • Engage in data review cycles with teachers, principals, and district staff to improve instruction.
  • Support progress monitoring cycles for students not making effective progress.
  • Collect and analyze assessment results to develop and track targeted instruction/support for students.

Qualifications:

  • Massachusetts Department of Education Educator's Certification in Teacher, English as a Second Language
  • Highly Qualified Teacher with Master's Degree: TESL, ESL, Applied Linguistics
  • 5 years of classroom teaching experience in ESL, and experience managing MLE Programs
  • Experience facilitating adult training, planning and organizing professional development
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Highly organized and able to take initiative in order to work independently and interdependently
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing to students and staff, and excellent collaboration skills with a variety of stakeholders
  • Deep understanding of WIDA Standards, SFL, ACCESS for ELs, MCAS, Edwin Analytics, and standards-based instruction
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa required
