Job Description

The Adult Education Program is seeking for a Part-Time Evening GED/HiSET Math and Science Teacher.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field required;
    Masters degree preferred
  • 3 – 5 years Adult Basic Education Math teaching experience preferred
  • Experience working with a diverse adult population (16+ yrs old) with complex socio-economic needs
  • Able to demonstrate experience with effective lesson planning, scaffolding, differentiated instruction, formative assessment and student engagement
  • Proficient in use of Google Suite with strong technological aptitude

POSITION SUMMARY:

The GED/HiSET Math & Science Teacher is responsible for providing high-quality, evidence-based instruction to adult learners preparing for the GED and/or HiSET examination at the Grade Level Equivalency 9–10 level. Instruction is delivered in a hyflex model, with students participating simultaneously in person and remotely. The teacher is expected to create an engaging, supportive, and academically rigorous learning environment that develops mathematical reasoning, scientific literacy, digital skills, and college and career readiness.

Teachers will accomplish this by evaluating student progress, adjusting instruction when necessary, and drawing upon professional knowledge, research and standards to respond to the needs of students within their classroom. Teachers will work together with the Assistant Director of Curriculum and Instruction and advisors to optimize student progress towards academic goals.

Job Requirements
  • RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

    • c. Prepares and electronically submits standards based lesson plans aligned to the program curriculum to the director no later than one hour before class begins for each class session.
    • d. Implements reasonable accommodations to enable individuals with disabilities who are otherwise qualified to perform the essential functions.
    • e. Sets and achieves student learning and professional practice goals
    • f. Collaborates as a team member with all staff to foster an environment for improved academic and personal outcomes for every student
    • g. Participates in a variety of high-quality professional development activities to refine and expand teaching practices based on program-designed self-assessment
    • h. Meets all reporting deadlines and attending all scheduled meetings, pre/post week training, and all on-site professional development offerings.
    • i. Assists with safety policies and procedures for staff and students
    • j. Completes all other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Curriculum and Instruction.
  • At least 3 year(s) of relevant experience preferred.
