As the Instrumentation & Controls Specialist at Williams College's state-of-the-art Combined Heat & Power Facility, you'll take the lead on maintaining and optimizing critical systems that keep operations safe, efficient, and reliable.

From calibrating control valves and transmitters to working with Siemens PCS 7 and Boiler Management Systems, this role puts your technical expertise at the center of a clean, modern energy plant. You'll be the go-to specialist for troubleshooting, upgrades, and maintenance, with the stability of a Monday–Friday schedule and the support of a highly skilled, collaborative team.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Lead the upkeep and reliability of Williams College's Combined Heat & Power (CHP) facility, including steam turbines, diesel generators, steam boilers, and Siemens software systems.
  • Collaborate with external vendors to support and enhance plant software, including control and valve tuning, with opportunities for additional training and development.
  • Oversee the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible operation of the facility.
  • Carry out scheduled calibrations of transmitters, control valves, and associated equipment.
  • Service and monitor air compressors, dryers, and related systems to ensure continuous instrument and plant air supply, with accurate data recording and logging.
  • Organize and coordinate day-to-day maintenance activities to keep the plant running smoothly and efficiently.
  • Promote high standards within the team and provide training on instrumentation and controls.
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of all plant systems, operations, and emergency procedures, referring to technical manuals when required.
  • Ensure strict adherence to operating procedures, safety policies, and lock-out/tag-out requirements.
  • Champion a strong safety culture by ensuring that all employees and contractors follow established guidelines.
Professional Qualifications
  • Must hold a valid driver license.
  • Valid Massachusetts 2nd Class Engineers License or higher (to act as Stationary Engineer when required)
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • It would be advantageous to have a Massachusetts Hoisting License classifications 1C and 3A but not a requirement
  • Licensed Electrician in the state of Massachusetts
Personal Skills
  • Ideally at least ten years maintenance experience in Instrumentation & Controls field ideally in a related working environment such as a Heating Plant or Power Station however other industries will also be considered.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Ability to navigate the heating plant using stairs and ladders
  • Able to remain active for 12 hour periods
