How you'll make an impact:
As an RF Systems Engineer Intern, you will work alongside experienced RF engineers to support the design, optimization, and performance analysis of Sirius
XM's terrestrial wireless systems. You will gain hands-on exposure to RF system performance engineering in complex urban environments, contributing to projects that improve signal quality, coverage, and reliability for our listeners.
This role offers a balance of analytical work, lab-based activities, and supervised field experience, providing a practical introduction to real-world RF systems engineering
What you'll do:
* Work with RF Systems and cross-functional teams to support ongoing network performance and optimization initiatives. Assist with analysis, documentation, and field activities that contribute to the planning and improvement of Sirius
XM's terrestrial repeater network.
* On any given day, you might be:
* Assisting with RF performance analyses, including SNR and signal quality evaluations
* Supporting RF propagation modeling and coverage analysis efforts using industry-standard planning tools
* Helping analyze drive test data and preparing summaries to support system optimization decisions
* Participating in supervised site walks and drive testing activities in metropolitan areas
* Assisting with the preparation and review of RF design documentation, drawings, and reports
* Collaborating with engineering and operations teams to support alignment between RF designs and field implementations
* Gaining exposure to RF test equipment, measurement techniques, and lab-based validation activities
What you'll need:
* Internships are open to current students enrolled at a university (those graduating by May 2027 are preferred) and recent graduates who graduated within the 12-month period prior to the start of the internship.
* Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Wireless Communications Engineering, Engineering Physics (with RF or electromagnetics coursework), or an Applied Engineering program with an RF or wireless emphasis.
* Fundamental knowledge of RF and wireless communication principles, including signal propagation, path loss, interference, and basic link budget concepts.
* Exposure to RF system analysis, modeling, or performance evaluation through coursework, laboratory work, or academic projects.
* Exposure to RF planning, mapping, or analysis tools through coursework or prior internship experience is a plus.
* Familiarity with basic RF measurement concepts and test equipment (e.g., spectrum analyzers, signal generators) is a plus.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret technical data and summarize findings.
* Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams.
