Senior​/Principal Transport Planner - Energy

Job Overview

WSP’s Transport Planning & Mobility team is expanding and seeks a Senior or Principal Transport Planner to support projects across the Energy sector. The role will involve preparing transport statements, assessments, environmental chapters, traffic management plans and travel plans, and engaging in scoping discussions with clients and local authorities. Key locations include Birmingham, Cambridge, Cardiff, Edinburgh, London, Newcastle and Southampton.

• Undertaking Transport Statements, Transport Assessments, Environmental Statement Transport Chapters, Construction Traffic Management Plans and Travel Plans, and participating in client and local authority scoping discussions.
• Leading technical discussions on accessibility of project and construction sites for all modes, articulating impacts and mitigations to support planning approvals.
• Working in a multidisciplinary environment, proactively collaborating with adjacent disciplines such as noise, air quality, ecology and highway teams.
• Upskilling knowledge to cover other transport work streams such as communications and engagement to support a sustainable workflow.
• Representing WSP values while delivering work in a collaborative client/consultant environment.
• Keeping up to date with relevant standards and policies, networking and attending conferences to raise WSP’s profile.
• Ensuring projects are delivered to budget, programme and required technical standards.

• Experience with scoping reports, transport assessments and environmental statement transport chapters.
• Delivering transport planning projects and knowledge of relevant guidelines and standards.
• Familiarity with Local Authority Transport Plans and Strategies; experience in transport feasibility studies, option assessment reports and providing inputs into transport related business cases.
• Strong numerical, spatial and analytical skills and excellent working knowledge of MS Office tools.
• Ability to produce project reports, including technical documents to a high technical standard.
• Ability to communicate technical arguments to technical and non-technical clients, and present outputs from studies to a range of audiences.
• Knowledge of current transport policy at sub-regional, regional and national level.
