About Commonwealth Fusion Systems

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is on a mission to deliver the urgent transition to fusion energy. Combining decades of research, top talent, and new technologies, we’re designing and building commercially viable fusion power plants. And we’re working with policymakers and suppliers to build the future energy industry. Since 2018, we’ve raised nearly $3 billion in capital, making us the largest and leading private fusion company in the world.

Lead

RF Electro-Mechanical Technician

We are seeking a highly motivated Lead RF Electro-Mechanical Technician to join our team of physicists, engineers, and technicians in accelerating the development of fusion energy. In this highly independent working lead role you will navigate a dynamic environment split between cutting‑edge R&D and assembly‑focused manufacturing, acting as the vital interface between the shop floor and engineering and translating engineering priorities into daily action for a small technician team.

What

you'll do
  • Leadership & Agile Iteration:
    • Direct the day‑to‑day activities of a small technician team.
    • Act as the primary interface with engineers, collaborating closely to troubleshoot, adapt, and iterate on designs in a fast‑paced, agile manner.
  • Hands‑on Assembly & Fabrication:
    • Lead by example on the shop floor.
    • Use hand and power tools to assemble complex components for RF transmitters, build I&C cabinets, and integrate various sensors and mechanical systems.
  • High‑Voltage & Testing:
    • Work safely and confidently with 480V electrical systems.
    • Handle RF and electrical test equipment to validate builds and ensure systems are functioning correctly from start to finish.
  • Precision Work:
    • Perform detailed technical tasks, including plumbing, wiring, and soldering, while maintaining meticulous attention to detail and cleanliness.
  • Safety & Quality Standards:
    • Operate and maintain highly technical apparatus with a steadfast commitment to safety and quality, setting the standard for your team.
    • Ensure safety is always the first priority in any testing activity.
    • Train other technicians and equipment operators in I&C equipment commissioning and troubleshooting.
    • Report on and be accountable for progress to your supervisor.
What we’re looking for
  • High school diploma, equivalency certificate, or higher. (Graduation from a two‑year technical school or military technical training is highly acceptable.)
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience with hand/power tools, machine shop equipment, and a variety of technical support skills (mechanical/electrical assembly, plumbing, soldering, and wiring).
  • Hands‑on experience working safely with high voltage (up to 480V).
  • Hands‑on experience with RF and electrical measurement/test equipment.
  • Strong foundational understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, alongside basic computer proficiency (email, video conferencing, data entry, etc.).
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills. Ability to take direction from leadership, work independently, and thrive in an agile environment balancing R&D and manufacturing demands.
Bonus points
  • Soldering of RF components on circuit boards.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
Must‑have requirements
  • Perform activities such as stooping, climbing, typing, standing, sitting, etc. for extended periods of time.
  • Dedication to safety to mitigate industrial hazards that may include heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead (Pb), high voltage, and cryogenics.
  • Work in a facility that contains industrial hazards including heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead (Pb), high voltage, high current, pressure systems, and cryogenics.
  • Willingness to occasionally travel or work required nights/weekends/on‑call.
Compensation and Benefits

$40 – $52 an hour. Salary will depend on level, location, qualifications, and experience. Benefits include competitive compensation with equity, 13 company‑wide holidays, flexible vacation days, 10 sick days, generous parental leave policy, health, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) with employer matching, professional growth opportunities, and team‑building activities.
