Environmental Health And Safety Specialist

The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining environmental, health, and safety programs within a regulated manufacturing environment. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while actively promoting a culture of safety, continuous improvement, and operational excellence across production, laboratory, warehouse, and support areas.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain EHS programs aligned with OSHA, EPA, FDA, USDA (as applicable), and state regulations.
  • Ensure and support EHS compliance for manufacturing, laboratory, and warehouse operations.
  • Conduct risk assessments, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and safety walk-throughs.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and safety observations; lead root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Support compliance with GMP, sanitation, chemical handling, and regulated waste management.
  • Manage environmental programs, including hazardous and non-hazardous waste, air, water, and wastewater compliance, spill prevention, and emergency response.
  • Create, deliver, and track EHS training programs (new hire, annual refresher, task-based).
  • Support audits and inspections from regulatory agencies and third parties.
  • Maintain EHS documentation, SOPs, metrics, and reporting.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Operations, Quality, Engineering, HR, and Leadership.
  • Drive a proactive safety culture through employee engagement and continuous improvement initiatives.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in safety, EHS, OSHA, and health & safety protocols.
  • Ability to hit the ground running with minimal training.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of EHS compliance.
  • Experience in environmental health, safety training, and safety procedures.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of direct EHS experience in Food & Beverage manufacturing or Pharmaceutical/Biopharmaceutical/Life Sciences manufacturing.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations, EPA environmental compliance, and FDA/GMP-regulated environments.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing floor safety, chemical handling, and hazardous materials.
  • Proficiency with incident investigations and corrective action plans.
  • Experience with EHS metrics, documentation, and reporting tools.

Work Environment

The work schedule can be either part-time (24 hours a week) or full-time (40 hours), with flexibility. The role operates in a regulated manufacturing environment involving production, laboratory, and warehouse settings.

This is a Contract position based out of Hadley, MA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $70.00/hr eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
