Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller plays a critical role in maintaining the financial integrity of Lasell Village. This position is responsible for leading the organization's accounting function, ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, supporting regulatory compliance, and providing thoughtful financial analysis that informs organizational decision-making.

Working closely with the CFO and leaders across the Village, the Controller combines strong technical accounting expertise with analytical thinking, sound judgment, and a commitment to continuous improvement. This role is ideal for a collaborative professional who enjoys improving systems, solving complex accounting challenges, and helping an organization navigate growth while remaining grounded in its mission.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Help to prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Ensure timely, accurate, and reliable financial reporting for organizational leadership.
  • Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and chart of accounts.
  • Analyze financial results and explain significant variances from budget and prior periods.
  • Prepare financial analyses and supporting schedules to assist executive decision-making.
Accounting Operations
  • Manage the general ledger, accounts payable, and fixed asset accounting functions.
  • Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
  • Ensure accounting transactions are recorded in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and/or other applicable standards.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve accounting processes and financial workflows.
Internal Controls & Compliance
  • Develop, maintain, and strengthen internal controls that safeguard organizational assets and promote financial accuracy.
  • Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies.
  • Coordinate the annual external audit and prepare schedules and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with preparation of the annual Form 990 and other required financial filings.
  • Monitor financial risks and recommend improvements to accounting policies and procedures.
Cash & Treasury Management
  • Monitor organizational cash flow and liquidity.
  • Review cash forecasting assumptions and working capital trends.
  • Assist the CFO with debt compliance, covenant reporting, and related financial analyses.
  • Support the management of banking relationships and treasury activities.
Strategic Partnership
  • Partner with the CFO on financial planning, strategic initiatives, and organizational priorities.
  • Help to develop financial models, key performance indicators, and operational analyses that support informed decision-making.
  • Assist in evaluating capital investments, operational improvements, and other strategic opportunities.
  • Support implementation and optimization of financial systems, reporting tools, and technology enhancements.
  • Collaborate with leaders across the Village to improve financial understanding and promote sound fiscal stewardship.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA preferred.
  • Five or more years of progressively responsible accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit, healthcare, senior living, or similarly regulated environment.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, financial reporting, and audit practices, with experience supporting external audits and regulatory reporting.
  • Proficiency with financial systems and advanced Microsoft Excel; experience with Multi View and/or Point Click Care  is a plus.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance attention to detail and accuracy with an understanding of the broader organizational picture.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate complex financial information for non-financial audiences.
