Communications Specialist

The Central Massachusetts Regional Emergency Communications Center is accepting applications forFull-Time Communications Dispatcher.

The Dispatch Center  is staffedwitha minimum of2-3

Public Safety Telecommunicators 24/7/365. Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, answering emergency and non-emergency calls for Police, Fire, and EMS, and dispatching public safety personnel on a variety of calls. All applicants must be willing to work all shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Applicants must have excellent verbal, writing, and typing skills. A minimum of a high school diploma or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong computer skills, ability to multi-task, and ability work professionally under high stress conditions is required. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license.

Previous dispatching experience in police, fire, or emergency services a plus. Certifications in CPR, First Aid,Nex Gen 911, CJIS, and APCO EMD, APCO PST 1 or equivalent are preferred.

The individual selected for the Full-time Communications Dispatcher position will be required to participate in the shift bidding process. Shift bids are conducted bi-annually. The position is subject to all pertinent personnel policies, procedures, rules, and regulations; and Collective Bargaining Agreement between CMRECC personnel and the Town of Rutland. This position is eligible for a complete employee benefit package as administered by the Town of Rutland.

The minimum starting rate of pay shall be set at $26.46/hour plus any differential. The incumbent will be subject to a probationary period of 12-months of active duty.

Base Wages:
Annual step increases for both Dispatchers and Supervisors

Shift Differentials:

11:00PM–7:00AM: +$1.50/hr

3:00PM–11:00PM: +$1.25/hr

Training Officer Stipend: $1,000 annually, paid monthly

Longevity Pay: $1,000 annually after 15 years of full-time service

Compensatory Time:
Up to 120 hours accrued per fiscal year at 1.5× rate

Holidays: 12 paid holidays, including Juneteenth and Patriots’ Day

Holiday worked: 1.5× additional pay

2 weeks after 1 year

3 weeks after 5 years

4 weeks after 10 years

5 weeks after 15 years

120 hours/year, max accrual of 1,400 hours

Sick incentive: 3 hours/month (up to 36 hrs/year) if no sick leave used

Personal Leave:
Up to 24 hours/year

Bereavement Leave :

6 days for immediate family

4 days for extended family/household members

2 days for close non-household relatives

Additional leave possible for out-of-state funerals
