Job Purpose And Summary

As a Pharmacy Technician, you support the pharmacy team in delivering operational and service excellence within your store. You are often the first point of contact for patients and customers, ensuring prescriptions are filled promptly, safely and accurately while providing a caring service that exceeds expectations.

Technicians work in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), best practices and effective communication. Throughout their shifts, they demonstrate genuine care and contribute to a safe, inclusive culture where all people feel valued and empowered.

Technicians complete a rigorous training program and satisfy state registration, licensing and certification requirements. Until requirements are fulfilled, duties may be limited by the Pharmacy Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Follow SOPs at each workstation to support Pharmacists in improving patient health.
  • Adhere to pharmacy workflow procedures for safe and accurate prescription fulfillment (production, pickup, drive-thru, drop‑off).
  • Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy, offering immunizations and other services, and resolving or escalating patient issues.
  • Perform basic inventory activities such as putting away medication deliveries, completing cycle counts, returns‑to‑stocks and waiting bin inventories.
  • Engage in continuous learning to expand clinical and technical knowledge.
  • Maintain flexibility for scheduling and business needs; travel to other stores as required.
  • Comply with all federal, state and local regulations, professional standards and CVS policies, including controlled substance dispensing and privacy protection.
  • Provide additional patient health care services (e.g., immunizations, point‑of‑care testing, off‑site clinics) where authorized by law and supported by required certification.
Immunizer Duties (If Applicable)
  • Obtain Technician Immunizer status by completing additional licensing and training.
  • Educate patients on vaccine importance and refer questions to the Pharmacist‑on‑duty.
  • Monitor for, report and respond to adverse reactions per public health regulations.
  • Collect and document patient information and track vaccine supplies.
Required Qualifications
  • Compliance with state board of pharmacy requirements including age, education and licensure/certification.
  • Minimum age of 16 if no state minimum age is set.
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or current enrollment in high school or equivalency program if no state educational minimum is set.
  • State-level licensure and national certification as required (refer to state board guidelines).
Essential Functions
  • Regular, predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
  • Completion of required training within the designated timeframe.
  • Attention and focus to confirm prescription information and label accuracy.
  • Customer service orientation—friendly assistance, responsive to patient reactions.
  • Communication skills—verbal, written, active listening, clear instructions.
  • Mathematical reasoning to calculate medication quantities.
  • Problem resolution—identify challenges and choose appropriate actions.
  • Physical demands: mobility, lifting up to 20 lbs, repetitive finger work, extended standing, precise machine adjustments.
  • Additional tasks as directed by Supervisor or Manager.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1‑3 years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician.
  • Experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical or customer service setting.
  • Ability to work in the home store and travel across the market for shift coverage.
