Our skilled nursing facility, located in Topeka, is launching a pulmonary program that addresses residents’ pulmonary and cardiac needs. The program aims to prevent rehospitalizations, maintain or improve activities of daily living (ADLs), and reduce the risk of pulmonary infection. Policies and processes support proactive, improved quality of life for those we serve. The ideal candidate is a Certified or Registered Respiratory Therapist, licensed in the State of Kansas, with a servant-leadership mindset.

The Respiratory Therapist will work with the Director of Nursing and Infection Preventionist to execute treatments and interventions that promote health and wellbeing, establish tangible goals, and track progress.

Responsibilities
  • Provide respiratory care services under physician orders, department policies, and state/federal guidelines.
  • Maintain knowledge of pulmonary care within the therapist scope and licensure for the long-term care facility.
  • Administer respiratory therapy treatments and interventions and understand their purpose and potential side effects.
  • Assess patient pain that interferes with function or rehabilitation and coordinate appropriate nursing interventions.
  • Follow departmental equipment sterilization procedures and maintain infection control.
  • Document all pertinent data in the patient’s medical record after completion of pulmonary program activities; tailor techniques to residents’ acuity, age, and life stage.
  • Operate and inspect respiratory therapy equipment to ensure safe and efficient functioning; maintain knowledge of oxygen therapy hazards.
  • Develop care plans based on identified learning needs and evaluate learning outcomes; involve patient families in teaching as appropriate.
  • Treat patients and families with respect and dignity; coordinate care to meet patient needs and comply with physician orders and policy.
  • Assess patient needs and tolerance for treatment and reassess response to therapy.
  • Navigate deadlines, maintain accuracy, and adapt to changing situations.
  • Attend and conduct in-service education to maintain professional competency; pursue program-specific education and training.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the department manager.
  • As in-charge therapist, oversee daily shift operations, including work assignments, troubleshooting, emergencies, and liaison with nurses, DON, administrator, and physicians.
  • Other duties may be assigned at any time with or without notice.

Qualifications
  • Education/Experience Requirements:
  • Current State Respiratory Therapist Licensure.
  • Graduate of an AMA-approved School of Respiratory Therapy.
  • Active CRT and RRT credentials.
  • Current ACLS and BLS certification.
