Melrose Wakefield Hospital is seeking a part-time (15hrs/week) candidate to join our team as a Community Health Educator! (Parent Child Educator)
This role focuses on providing medical and clinical support services to patients. In addition, this role focuses on performing the following Community Health duties:
Delivers training, facilitates sessions, and educates the community on a variety of clinical topics. A professional individual contributor role that may direct the work of other lower level professionals or manage processes and programs. The majority of time is spent overseeing the design, implementation or delivery of processes, programs and policies using specialized knowledge and skills typically acquired through advanced education.
An experienced level role that applies practical knowledge of job area typically obtained through advanced education and work experience. Works independently with general supervision, problems faced are difficult but typically not complex, and may influence others within the job area through explanation of facts, policies and practices.
Job Overview This position is responsible for educating people for the purpose of promoting, maintaining, and improving individual, family, and community health. Strengthens community ties, recruits volunteers, establishes a positive public image, conducts outreach, and promotes services and public involvement.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Two (2) years of College Coursework OR Associate’s Degree.
2. One (1) year of related experience.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities listed below are intended to describe the general nature of work and are not intended to be an all-inclusive list. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
1. Works with hospital staff, physicians and community members to plan programs to meet assessed needs.
2. Develops and uses appropriate educational strategies and methods to facilitate the development of programs.
3. Assesses the social and cultural competence of the community and develops culturally diversified health programs.
4. Using general principles of learning and adult education, conducts effective education and informational presentations.
5. Establishes a healthy learning environment utilizing evidence-based health education concepts.
6. Utilizes a variety of types and sources of data when gathering health care information about the community.
7. Plans, organizes, and coordinates special events such as health fairs, screenings, etc.
8. Maintains competence in knowledge about community, specific current health issues and health and social services.
9. Develops effective written health education materials.
Physical Requirements:
1. Frequent standing and walking, occasional sitting and lifting of 10 - 50 lbs.
2. Requires manual dexterity using fine hand manipulation demonstrate childbirth techniques and to operate video equipment and computer keyboard.
3. Requires ability to communicate effectively and see computer screen and reports.
Skills & Abilities:
1. High proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
2. Thorough working knowledge and experience using multiple database software products including but not limited to Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
3. Strong teaching skills, along with the ability to adjust teaching skills to meet the needs of the class.
4. Excellent organization, communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
5. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and within scheduled deadlines.
6. Excellent interpersonal skills when working with new parents.
