POSITION SUMMARY:
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) delivers efficient and effective nursing care while achieving positive clinical outcomes and patient/family satisfaction. He/she will function within the standards of practice as accorded by his/her certification. The CNA performs various patient care activities and related non-professional services essential to caring for personal needs and comfort of patients.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Patient Care Treat all residents fairly, with kindness, dignity and respect
Provide nursing care in privacy
Maintain confidentiality and protect sensitive Protected Health Information at all times
Provide patient care in a manner conductive to safety and comfort. Patient care includes, but is not limited to:
Keep patients dry (change clothing and linens when wet or soiled)
Assist with meals and daily snacks as indicated
Assist patient with or performs Activities of Daily Living (ADL)
Assists patients with ambulation and transfers
Position patients in correct body alignment in and out of bed Assist physician and/or licensed nurse with treatments and procedures as needed
Answer call light promptly, delivers messages, cleans areas of spillage or accidents
Report changes in patient’s condition, patient/family concerns or complaints to the Studio Manager Report all complaints and grievances made by the resident to the Studio Manager Teamwork Participates in the orientation of newly hired staff
Collects and bags soiled linen and delivers to dirty linen area and washes them Obtains clean linens and supplies from supply area, cleans utility rooms, kitchen areas and all other areas as assigned
Collaborates and coordinates with other departments to provide timely effective care consistent with individual’s needs, choices and preferences
Contributes to an environment that is respectful, team – oriented and responsive to the concerns of staff, patients and families
Stays and works beyond scheduled shift if needed to meet patients’ needs
Attends team meetings regularly, to assist in identifying and correcting problem areas, and/or the improvement of services
Actively participate and interact during students’ visits and internship program in the Studios Notifies the supervisor promptly when late or absent
Performs other duties as requested

SKILLS:
Knowledge of procedures and techniques involved in administering simple treatments and providing related bedside patient care services
Knowledge of basic and standard precautions
Willing to work rotating shifts
Ability to contribute to a patient – centered environment
Can respond with tact to hostile and emotionally upset patients, family members, personnel and visitors
Can respond cheerfully in all interactions with patients, personnel, visitors under all conditions and circumstances
Follow the activities calendar and run/attend scheduled group activities with the residents including but not limited to exercise/walking group, trivia, sing – a – long, etc.
Willing to cook breakfasts, lunches or dinner for the residents in the studios according to the set scheduleENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
May need to reach overhead, handle objects
May need to move, transport or position objects up to 40 pounds
Continuous moving, standing, climbing, frequent periods requiring sustained uncomfortable physical conditions
May need to ascend/descend stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and twist
Works beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary
Is subject to call – back during emergency conditions (e.g. severe weather, post – disaster, etc.)Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including TB and the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses
Is subject to injury from falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the workday, as well as to reactions from dust, disinfectants, tobacco smoke, and other air contaminantsSPECIFIC EDUCATIONAL/VOCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Successful completion of a state approved certified nursing assistant programA minimum of a high school education or high school equivalency diploma is preferred.
