Principal Linux System Administrator – Tewksbury, MA
This role supports critical classified programs across multiple teams and provides secure, cost‑efficient environments for various classified IT infrastructure projects.
Responsibilities- Provide IT system administration in heterogeneous environments including Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Microsoft Windows.
- Apply knowledge of Linux fundamentals and Windows Server internals, including Ansible, DNS, DHCP, LDAP, AD, and server replication.
- Collaborate with teams in a fast‑paced environment, applying troubleshooting techniques to moderate‑to‑high complexity problems involving hardware and operating systems.
- Understand RAID, data backup technologies, and install/configure software applications requested by end users.
- Work with cybersecurity professionals to maintain security requirements and provide documentation and training on advanced IT processes.
- Obtain DoDD 8140 / 8570 certification (CompTIA Security+ CE or equivalent) within six months of start date.
- Develop solutions and documentation to resolve a variety of technical problems.
- Maintain systems 24/7, with occasional work beyond standard hours.
- Travel up to 10% domestically as business needs dictate.
- Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 5years of relevant experience, or master’s degree with a minimum of 3years; or 9years of direct experience if no degree.
- Ability to obtain a transferable U.S. government secret security clearance before start date; U.S. citizenship is required.
- Experience administering Linux systems.
- Experience with LDAP, Active Directory, VMware, MySQL, or networking administration.
- Experience with VMware (vCenter, vSphere, ESX) and virtualization.
- Active DoD Secret clearance.
- DoDD 8140 / 8570 certification with an operating‑system certification.
- Background with NISPOM, JAFAN, JSIG, DFARS and/or DoD/RMF.
- In‑depth Linux experience.
- Data storage expertise (NAS, SAN).
- IT project lifecycle management experience.
- Support for engineers in software, simulations, and hardware development.
- Experience with Microsoft WSUS, MECM, and/or Exchange.
- High‑performance computing (HPC) experience on Linux.
- Scripting skills.
- Competitive salary range: $86,800 – $165,200.
