Position Summary
The Safety Manager is responsible for leading the company’s safety program and fostering a culture of safety across all electrical construction projects. This role oversees the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of safety policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. The Safety Manager provides strategic direction, supervises safety personnel, and partners with project leadership to mitigate risk and drive safety excellence throughout the organization.
Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Management
- Direct and manage the safety team, including hiring, training, mentoring, and performance evaluations.
- Establish departmental goals, priorities, and resource allocation to support company-wide safety objectives.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for safety-related matters across all projects and offices.
Program Development & Compliance
- Develop, implement, and maintain corporate safety programs, policies, and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA standards, NFPA 70E, and other applicable regulations.
- Oversee the creation and review of project-specific safety plans (SSPs), Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and lockout/tagout procedures.
- Conduct regular job-site safety audits and inspections across active electrical construction projects.
Risk Management & Reporting
- Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action planning.
- Track and report safety metrics (TRIR, near misses, leading indicators) to senior leadership.
- Identify trends and implement proactive measures to reduce risk.
Training & Communication
- Develop and deliver safety orientation and ongoing training programs for employees at all levels.
- Communicate safety expectations and updates to project managers, foremen, and field personnel.
- Promote safety awareness through regular meetings, toolbox talks, and company-wide initiatives.
Continuous Improvement
- Stay current on changes in safety regulations and industry best practices.
- Drive innovation in safety processes and technology to enhance program effectiveness.
- 5+ years of experience in construction safety, preferably in electrical contracting.
- OSHA 30 certification required; CHST, STS-C, or CSP preferred.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA 1926, NFPA 70E, and electrical safety standards.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to travel regularly to jobsites.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and safety management software.
