The Town of Yarmouth is searching for a Building, Grounds & Energy Management Superintendent, to join their Public Works team.

Overview / Responsibilities
  • Supervise the Building and Grounds Division (Facilities, Parks, Cemeteries) in accordance with department policies and objectives; establish short and long-range goals and objectives, employee performance standards, and assume direct accountability for results.
  • Consult with supervisor when clarification or exception to municipal policy may be required.
  • Develop Building & Grounds Division policies, goals and objectives; resolve conflicts and coordinate with others as necessary. Assist during snow events.
  • Supervise up to 15 full-time employees and up to 20 seasonal subordinate employees; ensure work is completed to standard, on time, and within cost; address performance, discipline, and staffing decisions as needed.
  • Plan, schedule, coordinate, and adjust work operations; assign work based on staff capabilities; monitor quality and timeliness; prepare evaluations and provide guidance to staff.
  • Manage attendance, leave, and payroll considerations; communicate policies and procedures; advise on performance requirements.
  • Oversee annual and long-range capital and maintenance planning for buildings and grounds; monitor project progress and coordinate with other Town departments.
Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Planning, Engineering, or equivalent master craftsman level of trade knowledge; with seven to ten (7-10) years progressively responsible work experience in buildings, grounds, and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, facilities and/or energy efficiency; and project management; energy management; plus supervision of staff and private contractors; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Experience preferred administering energy efficiency projects.

Certifications

/ Skills
  • Possesses MCPPO certification or demonstrates thorough knowledge of Massachusetts procurement statutes (M.G.L. c. 30B, c. 149, c. 30, §39M, and related regulations).
  • Ability to prepare, issue, and manage procurement documents (IFBs, RFPs, contracts, and Addenda) and ensure compliance with state procurement thresholds.
Special Requirements
  • Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Driver's License required.
  • MA Unrestricted Construction Supervisor's License required.
  • As a condition of employment, CORI certification is required.
Physical & Cognitive Demands
  • Moderate physical effort to perform supervisory work in office and field with varied weather exposure; intermittent driving, standing, walking; ability to traverse rough or uneven terrain.
  • Motor skills involve close hand-eye coordination and dexterity for equipment operation and computer use.
  • Visual/Auditory skills include reading documents, screens, reports, maps, surveys and hearing instructions.
Essential Functions
