SUPERVISOR: Project Manager (PM)

GRADE: E
12 $ 23.00 ($47,832.51) to $34.49 ($71,748.77)

Position Summary:

Under direct supervision the Project Supervisor is responsible for carrying out the objectives to the Lead Youth Corps and members of the Washoe Tribe; assists with implementation of environmental projects and field activities; monitors condition of Tribal natural resources; and maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Project Manager to develop and write reimbursement project proposals that meet Washoe Tribe project mandates, which include: provide public benefit; protection and enhancement of California’s environment; and development of corps members’ job skills. Contact and meet with project sponsors to discuss and plan work projects and conduct safety inspections of work sites; update sponsors on project status; assist with the scheduling of work crews to various projects;

    integrate learning opportunities in work projects by ensuring that each work project has a planned educational component that is related to the work project; enters project information in database tracking system.
  • Assist with the development of Job Hazard Analysis; work with Project Manager to enforce all aspects of safety in relation to the activities; assist with project logistics including the purchase of tools, materials, and equipment. May act as lead staff supervising project work.
  • Ensure the preparation and maintenance of daily and monthly documentation including work activities and accomplishment reports, daily time sheets, field files, corps member evaluations, safety reports, accident reports, vehicle mileage logs, and other reports as required; develop and prepare project reimbursement data; organize and support “spike operations” and respond to natural disasters and other emergencies as needed.
  • Assist with the coordination of the corps member discipline program and Corps member Development program (e.g. corps member evaluations and training) in conjunction with the respective staff members; monitor corps member discipline documents and assist to ensure consistency of discipline; other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associates Degree in General Studies.
  • 3 years’ experience in skilled labor, equipment operation, Management, Environmental or similar field and/or education and experience. 3 Years Sawyer experience.
  • OSHA 30 (or within 10 days)
Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and

Certifications:
  • Knowledge of business English, proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, and basic arithmetic.
  • Microsoft word suite.
  • Knowledge of basic environmental terms.
  • Knowledge of the functions and structure of the Washoe Tribe.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in the English language, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels.
  • Ability to work under harsh weather and terrain conditions.
  • Ability to properly lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds from one location to another.
  • Ability to be sensitive to Tribal cultural needs of the communities in which the work is performed.
  • Wildland Firefighting Training
  • Arbor (including tree climbing, rope safety, knots, limbing)
  • First-Aid and CPR/ AED Certification
  • Chain Saw Training/S212 Certification, Power Tools Safety and Operation, Heavy Equipment Safety and Operation;
    Chipper Safety and Operation, and Trail Construction and Maintenance.
Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to stand, walk, sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment:

Work is generally performed outdoors where exposure to natural weather conditions and various dusts and mists may occur.
