Position Summary

The Recreation Supervisor leads the Center’s recreation program and creates a safe, engaging, and student-centered environment where students can build confidence, practice positive social skills, and participate in meaningful activities outside of the classroom and trade areas. This role oversees the daily operations of the Recreation Department, develops creative programming for the full student population, promotes health and wellness, and ensures recreation activities support student success, accountability, and positive Center culture.

The Recreation Supervisor works closely with Residential Living/Dorm Life, Social Development, Safety/Security, and other departments to ensure students are properly supervised and engaged during recreation, evening programming, extended training day activities, and special events. This position may also serve as Acting Center Shift Manager/Manager on Duty when needed.

Management & Supervision

Supervises and manages the Recreation Department. Serves as Center Shift Manager/Manager on Duty as required.

Responsibilities
  • Follows all integrity guidelines and procedures and ensures no manipulation of student data.
  • Oversees, plans, and manages a comprehensive, creative, and diverse recreation program that appeals to the full student population.
  • Develops and publishes weekly and monthly recreation schedules that promote student engagement, wellness, leadership, and positive leisure-time activities.
  • Coordinates recreation activities with CPP and Social Development, including evening programming and student engagement initiatives.
  • Participates as an active member of the Center’s HEALs Committee and may serve as chairperson of the committee.
  • Supports health, wellness, fitness, and active lifestyle programming for students.
  • Works closely with the Social Development Director/Manager to coordinate and supervise the Center’s extended training day program.
  • Coordinates the Center’s Leisure Time Employment programs.
  • Builds Center-beneficial recreation, leadership, and community partnerships that enhance student programming and opportunity.
  • Coordinates staff coverage to ensure student recreation areas, common areas, dorms, Welcome Center/Security Gate, grounds, and other assigned areas are properly supervised.
  • Works in partnership with Dorm Life/Residential Living and Safety/Security staff to effectively supervise, redirect, and manage the student population.
  • Ensures safe practices, proper supervision, and program compliance within prescribed safety guidelines.
  • Maintains inventory of recreation equipment and materials, controls their use, recommends purchases, and performs minor repairs as needed.
  • Manages the Recreation Department budget responsibly and in alignment with Center priorities.
  • Maintains the overall appearance, condition, cleanliness, safety, and organization of recreation facilities.
  • Ensures overall program compliance with Department of Labor, Company, Job Corps, PRH, and Center guidelines and directives.
  • Interviews, recommends for hire, evaluates, disciplines, recommends termination, and supports development of Recreation Department employees.
  • Ensures staff adhere to rest and meal break requirements.
  • Uses sound time-management and delegation skills to ensure department goals, deadlines, and coverage needs are met.
  • Provides required and supplemental training for new and current employees.
  • Motivates and empowers staff to perform their responsibilities effectively and contribute to a supportive, professional work environment.
  • Develops Center-beneficial linkages within the community for education, employment, Career Technical Training, Work-Based Learning, and student enrichment opportunities.
  • Promotes a positive image of the Center and Job Corps and establishes meaningful relationships with community partners and elected officials as appropriate.
